Get the band and order a dimondique from QVC. No one will know the difference! !! I'm the opposite I only wear my e ring. . Allergic to my wedding band and at this point don't want to spend the money on a new one :)

I don't wear anything.
Do the renovations & forgo the engagement ring!
Ditto. I am married and rarely wear either my ering orcwedding band. A house is more important than a piece of jewelry IMO

My E ring just sits in my jewelry box. I rarely wear it.

Re: Wedding Band Only?
when we got engaged in college - I just had to make sure it was a platinum band, and over 1 ct in the center & side stones...
Now, almost over 10 years post engagement, 2 kids later.. I mostly just wear the wedding band... I look at the ring which has multiple stones set to look like 1 and I would be happy with that.(saw for like 1,500 at bjs).. or selling the center stone and putting a color stone in....
So I think using the band before the wedding would be confusing... I'd just go with something simple

Re: Wedding Band Only?
I was interested reading this post. My BF of almost 2 years just mentioned this past weekend that I have to show him what kind of engagement ring I like. We are not engaged but have been discussing our future. We have 3 kids between us and I am more concerned with having a home we can all comfortably live in and all of the kids needs than a diamond.
So I was glad to read your question and all the replies. I didn't have a proper proposal by ExDH so I think BF wants to do that for me but I feel bad if he spends the $!

Wedding Band Only?
My e-ring was less than 2500 Ritani (he picked it because its what I wanted in design not size or whatever society says I need) and my wedding band I picked for myself is $900 and I LOVE it.
I don't wear my e-ring much anymore only at big things but my wedding band I wear daily. It has small diamonds spread out through the band so it sparkles ever so slightly, but its mostly a thin gold band. I hardly feel it (which I like since I literally NEVER remove it).
I say go with something you are comfortable wearing and remember styles change and that big diamond ring in style today won't be tomorrow. Go with what YOU like. And that means no e-ring, then don't worry about it. Not like anyone looks for it anyway after you're married.
I wore a twisted gold band before I was engaged that everyone thought was my wedding band! LOL ;)
As far as explaining yourself.. I'd just say I'd rather spend the money on my house I see daily than a ring that would be put in a drawer!

Wedding Band Only?
I wouldn't wear a wedding band as an engagement ring. I would just forget the engagement ring (you don't need one to be engaged) get married and then just wear your wedding bands! A lot of people don't even wear their engagement rings anyway. And who cares what other people think!

I know a lot of people who only wear their wedding band.
Yes me too.
For me, I love to wear my engagement ring and wedding band together so I do wear my ring but if you don't care then def invest in just a band.
The band signifies the marriage - the engagement ring is just that, the engagement part. So, you only need a band and don't worry what others think. Because you have a daughter together people probably assume you are already married, rings or not!
