Carpet in baby's room

We're finally getting DS's room finished. It needs new carpeting (wall to wall). I want to spend a little extra to get nice, soft carpeting. DH wants to get something that is decent, but of course is content with the one that is a bit less money. What do you think? Do you lay/sit on the floor in DS's room? Or should I be a bit economical and not worry about that? What we have now is just contractor-grade...so ok, but not plush or anything. In DD's room, I got thick, but not terribly soft.

We got middle of the road carpet for our DS' room at lowes in March and got an amazing price. It's decently thick and soft.

Maybe u could get a remnant to keep the price down?

We have a burber in our room. I thank god it's not plush every time I've had to clean up vomit or something else.

Likepp mentioned I was gonna say keep in mind cleaning up spit up, vomit, spills, etc. I just had a not plush at all area rug. And it was wrecked.

We are just ordering new carpet for bedrooms and are spending the extra $$$ for my plush carpet and the top of line padding. I like cushy carpet so to me it's worth the money.

I agree with the posters who said to keep in mind the stains that might happen on a rug in a child's bedroom.

We have an area rug in dds room that is plush but I like that it's not permanent and we can easily switch it out if it becomes too stained.

We don't spend much time in the kids' room... so we have hardwood flooring there.

BUT in the living room (where we actually live & have all the toys, etc.), we have a huge Olefin (which is a plastic polymer) rug. It's soft, durable & cheap. It looks like it should cost 10X what it did (we bought it from Costco). Spills wipe from it easily, it cleans well & if it were to ruin this year, we would feel like it has def been worth the money. We get compliments on it all the time & have had several friends & family buy one to put in their living room for something functional & beautiful.

We have a "nice" wool rug too in an area with less traffic... just much more nervous about it, so I wouldn't recommend.

Of course, this is all if you have an option of skipping the carpet & doing rugs.

We got a great carpet but we got a remnant and it saved us tons. Definitely look into that.

We used the corn-based SmartStrand by Mohawk. It's naturally stain-resistant, and since it's corn-based, it has a lot less off-gassing than regular carpet. It's also softer than most other carpets. We've cleaned so much stuff off the carpets, and they still look brand new, 5.5 years later.
