Zoo with 15 month old
We want to take our dd to the Bronx zoo this weekend. The children's zoo is closed due to renovations. Our dd is 15 months, anyone have any tips on spots to focus on for that age?

Yes! So fun. Just don't try to do it ALL. You can't. lol. There is so much to see. Find a good area and have fun. They love the congo with the gorilla's, the bug carousel and the sea lions .

Re: Zoo with 15 month old
We went in May when DD was 19 months. She liked the sea lions, polar bear, and Congo gorilla exhibits the best- probably bc you can get closest to those and the animals are large enough to see easily. Some of the exhibits were lost on her, bc she couldn't really look far enough through the fences or glass to really appreciate them. She loved people watching, and seeing the everyday squirrels and birds, haha- oh and the peacocks that roam free! And she loved the bug carousel. Have fun!

Dd is 12 months and we have taken her 3 times so far. She loves it. The sea lions are probably her favorite and you could actually see she's enjoying it.
We also do the monorail. Butterfly garden (she likes the koi pond in there also).

I took dd at 15 months - not knowing the petting zoo was closed. She enjoyed the seals the most....and just running around. 2 weeks later we took her to white post farms and she enjoyed it even more (and it was much cheaper!)

We took DD a few times at that age and did the monorail, gorillas, giraffes, zebras, polar bears, tigers, bug carousel, and I'm sure some other stuff. We always started with the monorail right when they opened and then made a few goals of things we wanted to see. Usually stayed about 3 hours and always got to see more than we hoped for. She loved it!
ETA- She was young for the children's zoo and didn't love that too much so I think we skipped it the second time.

The Queens zoo is great for little kids too! We took DD at that age and it was the perfect amount of stuff for her to see. I haven't been to the Bronx zoo with her but mostly b/c I've been there a gazillion times on field trips with my students.

Central Park has a great sized zoo for that age! And they have a separate children's zoo as well.

I'd recommend the CP or Queens Zoo since the petting zoos are open. Even if your child doesn't want to pet the animals, you still get a very close view of them! And since those zoos are much smaller, it's much more manageable at that age, IMO.
