Fact or Fiction

Teething causes low grade fevers??????

DS is 4m and definitely teething. Chomping on everything, sucking his hands, drooling and grumpy. He has had a low grade fever (around 100) on and off for a few days now. I am thinking it is the teething but worried there could be something wrong which would cause the on and off fever. Whats your thoughts on this?

Re: Fact or Fiction

My pediatrician told me that teething doesn't cause a fever HOWEVER, teething causes swollen and irritated gums and the swollen and irritated gums can cause a low grade fever. Anything over 101 likely isn't a teething fever.

But, I haven't bothered to have that info corroborated.

My kids never had fevers when teething but then they also never really "teethed" either. There was nothing out of the ordinary with their behavior when a tooth cut. Teeth would just pop up and I'd barely notice unless I was looking for them.

My DS ALWAYS had a fever (low grade) when he was teething so for me - fact.

We'll see what happens with DD when she starts
