Parents of Children with Asthma

What were the signs that something was up? I feel like DD1 almost always has a residual cough. She has already had bronchitis twice this year and I think she is coming down with it again. Almost no coughing during the day (unless she is running around) but a terrible cough at night. Last night it was a 2 hour coughing fit . I am making an appointment today but my mommy instinct (or paranoia lol) is telling me something is up.

My oldest has it (shes 4.5) I noticed last year she would have hour long cough fits after running around, playing with her friends. I finally took her to the doc and he said its basically exercise induced asthma. And she also now has allergies so bad this year. So he put her on a chewable Singulair. I gave that a few weeks to kick in and it helped her allergies out tremendously, but not her asthma. So we now have to do 2 nebulizer treatments a day and since then shes SO much better. Cause I also noticed that since its started getting humid shes been coughing a lot too cause its hard for her to breathe, but the singulair and nebulizer together really seems to be helping.

My son at 2 always got sick and with a nasty cough. The cough would last two weeks and the only thing that would help was the nebulizer and sometimes combined with antibiotics. I thought it was bronchial asthma and it didn't help my fears the fact that his biological mom smoked cigarettes while pregnant with him. From 2-3.5 he would get sick a lot and the doctor wouldn't diagnose him but t looked like it was a possibility. At 4 he stopped getting really sick like that and hardly ever needs the machine to clear his chest up.

However, my stepson who is now 16 was diagnosed as a baby and needed to be treated several times a year. Definitely see what your doctor has to say and hopefully it isn't asthma like in my sons case. If it is, the best thing with asthma is to be proactive with treatments and medications (ex. Allergy or preventative asthma meds). This will help in the long run.
