Finding mom groups in another state that aren't church related
We recently relocated to Florida, Palm Beach County. I've found a couple of mommy groups on Facebook. One I found on my own research and the other through a new mom I met at the park. The group I found on my own, I left because I had went to a couple of play dates in groups and the moms were too immature and catty. This second group is nice, however it's a church based group. They all go to the same church. Also, I recently had an issue with one of the moms and her son because ether son is too wild and she doesn't discipline him.. So I'm trying to stay away from that. I'm not against churches, it's just not what's for me right now. Isn't there any other way to find more friends for my son and I without having to join groups that are church related?
Adjusting itself has already been a challenge.. This subject just adds to it being challenging.

Def try meetup.com. If you don't find any groups you think are a good fit, start your own. You can set up meetings at the playgrounds, etc. Other public spaces.

We took some Mommy and Me classes and met some playdate friends that way.

meetup.com https://www.momsclub.org/blog/find-a-chapter/
We moved to the DC area with a 2 year old toddler and infant. I didn't click with anyone for a long time. I went to a few mom's club meetings and felt I never fit in. I very clearly remember showing up to a stroller walk where no one showed up and I walked home lonely and starting to sob. However, I would not dismiss a group too quickly. If you go to enough outings, you can usually find someone you like and vice versa. You can't be best friends with everyone but if you are new to an area, it is nice to have places to socialize your child.
3 years later, we now have more friends than we did in NYC. We have a solid group of friends that I met on meetup.com and a handful of preschool families hang out regularly. I thought meetup.com was awful but then I went to one park outing where 20 families (husbands included) came and we clicked with about 5 families. We hang out almost once week with the entire families.
Good luck.

Re: Finding mom groups in another state that aren't church related
I found friends at a park and My Gym.
The one at the park was actually a nanny but our kids were the same age and we clicked. We started making play dates for the kids and ended up really good friends. She doesn't nanny for them anymore but we still talk (i have moved away )
My other friend in Boston I met through classes at My Gym. We started talking each week and eventually became really really good friends. Again I have moved away but we just visited Boston yesterday and I met up with both friends
Now we are in CT and theirs a MOMs Group. It's been great. I haven't met any long time friends yet but it gets me out of the house to do things and I keep meeting the same people so eventually I will become friends with them.
I recently met a really good friend here b/c of older dd's preschool. The girls love each other, so a few playdates and we really like each other too. It's been fun.
Keep searching fb, and meetup.com.

Aw I'd meet up with you, I go down to Gardens on the weekends sometimes. I do work FT during the week, so that doesn't really help.

Thanks. Maybe we could try to get together with the kids on the weekend if you're down this way. I will PM you too.
