Birthday Party Question - How to limit number of parents that come.
I'm having DD's 4th birthday party at a place that has a room that holds max 40 people (it's a fire code thing, not a $ thing). We are allowed up to invite 20 kids.
Looking at our invite list, if each kid (or sibling set) brings only one parent we will be just fine with the number, exactly at the 40. But in this group of invitees there are a few "only children" that always have both parents come to birthday parties, or families that have a child DD's age and an infant who might bring the whole family (infants count towards the number).
Is there something tactful I can put on the invitation that talks about space limitations? Do I mention things to people when they RSVP? (if so, do I limit it to the people I'm close enough that it's comfortable to say something like this to? but then others might bring two parents because I wasn't comfortable saying this to them and that's not fair to others?)
Who knew these parties could get so controversial??

Re: Birthday Party Question - How to limit number of parents that come.
We have had invitations say, "due to space limitations, we can only accommodate invited child and one parent" or something along those lines.
Most people try to limit siblings and not parents. But this addresses both.

Good to know! I was afraid this would come off as obnoxious but glad to hear it's common practice!

I think this is good to say and I wouldn't be offended by it.

Not everyone you invited will come but I agree with above.

I agree with the above. It also puts across that it's an issue with the place, not just you saying it.
