For those of you who breastfeed past a year question??

I have a question my second daughter is 15 months and still nurses at night only. But I'm done. I have no idea how to stop it though This is how I get her to sleep at night and when I stop giving her the boob she screams so I give in so she doesn't wake her sister. But I need sleep she still gets up 2-3 times at night. I need to tips please

I did it up until 13 months and then I just had to stop because she was still night waking. I just cut her off cold turkey. It was a hard week but then everything was OK after that!!!

For those of you who breastfeed past a year question??

DD was 13mo, I was also down to just a bedtime feeding and my supply was quickly dwindling. I kept complaining to my DH that I thought DD was frustrated and that she wanted more, but I wasn't fully ready to give up. One night, my DH just handed me a bottle and said, "you're done." DD sucked the entire 8oz down in no time flat and was happier than I'd seen her in weeks. And that was the end of breastfeeding! Surprisingly painless.

We did not have the most pleasant end unfortunately. We were down to just bedtime but I started offering a sippy of milk before nursing, I can't even remember exactly why. My supply really had dwindled for a combination of reasons. We ran into major sleep issues where nothing was helping and it just kept getting worse. DD had never nursed to sleep but she suddenly wouldn't go to sleep, wasn't satisfied or comforted from nursing, was waking up at night and not going back to sleep for hours. We finally decided to CIO for the first time and I decided to wean at the same time. The first two nights were tough but she sttn from night one and did great. She was just turning 16 months at that point.

I BF until 27.5 months but we night-weaned around 9-10 months. He STTN and then I had DH go in instead of me and he realized he wouldnt be getting the boob so he stopped waking or crying when he did.

We weaned at bedtime much later, around 22 months maybe? And I think I stopped nursing to sleep around 18-19 months? One night I just totally changed up his routine and nursed him, then brushed teeth, then read to him, then bed. Broke the cycle of nursing to sleep without weaning if that makes sense. He did cry the first 2 nights because he wanted to nurse but I knew he wasnt hungry bc he was older and had just nursed. I just held him and bounced him and stayed out of the chair we nurse in. He cried about 15 minutes the first night (in my arms with me soothing him) and 2 minutes the second night and the third night he pointed to his crib so I put him to bed. When we bedtime weaned for real, I just gave him a water sippy while we read a book instead of nursing him and he was surprisingly ok with that change in routine.

I was going to post the same thing! DD is almost 14 months and still waking some nights 4-6 times. We stopped giving her a bottle at 1, so I guess sooner than later I am going to try a sippy with milk right before bed. Maybe try feeding her more at night too. I think it is mostly a comfort thing, so I doubt anything but letting them cry will work! GL!

i breastfed ds until he was 22 months... the only reason i stopped was because i was having trouble getting pregnant. i was in the same boat as you - the only way i could get him to fall asleep at night was to nurse. i eventually went down to only nursing him once right before bed but that wasn't good enough to bring on ovulation for me so i knew i had to stop. i think he just liked the closeness as opposed to the nursing itself because i let him lay with me holding him as if he were nursing until he fell asleep (lights off). it took about 5 minutes, then once he was asleep we would transfer him to his crib. it was way easier than i ever imagined it would be, although he still likes to put his hand down my shirt for comfort (10 months later).

eta: i wore shirts that wouldn't provide him access to the boobs for a few weeks

any time! also, he used to wake up a million times during the night to night nurse but as soon as we were completely weaned he started completely sleeping through the night. good luck and FM me if you want to talk further.
