I'm with you... I rarely remember to print pics out. Heck, I'm really bad with taking pics and doing video.

My boys are happy and doing great. THat's all that matters. Never wrote their milestones, forgot a couple of times to do the monthly pics so they were always late. Two monthly pics were about a week apart. Chat Icon

Oh, I am not all natural and organic... I try and be healthy, but in the end as long as they are not eating crap then I'm happy.

Do what works best for you and your family. Chat Icon

I am not crafty, never have been, don't have a desire to be. He does cool crafts at school and if he enjoys it I will enroll him in art classes Chat Icon

My kid loved, my kid is healthy, my kid is happy. I don't measure myself by anyone else's standards and I don't question my mothering, my son is my priority and everything I do in his his best interest, that is the best you can do as a mom IMO Chat Icon

Honestly? The only thing that kind of sticks out in your post is art projects, planting gardens, family outings. The other stuff like baby books and pinterest type stuff can go scratch, but trying to spend some quality time doing things together IS important. I think maybe you would feel better if you tried to plan and squeeze in at least one little activity a week. Maybe going to the library together or a park. It would probably make you feel good. Jmo. It's not important to document every milestone or activity with a blog post or a scrap book page, but doing some stuff together is important.

Re: Am I the only one? Mommy fail... daily

It's funny that this thread is going on now because the other day I was cooking dinner, trying to throw something together quickly in my messy disaster of a dirty kitchen, with stuff EVERYWHERE, and me making a huge mess while doing so, using the wrong measuring cups because the right ones were dirty in the dishwasher which hadn't been run in days, just hacking the whole thing....

And I started thinking about the cooking blogs I see- where they take pictures of each step, and the kitchen is so clean, and the cooking utensils are not only functional, but attractive to the eye, and the mixing bowls all match, and the granite is shining.

And then I thought, how great would it be if I started my own blog, and took pictures of the way I do things, and a messy kitchen, and flour all over the place, etc.
It could actually be a pretty funny blog.

I may look into this....

I feel like I'm a failure on all aspects - employee, wife, mother. Somthing is always lacking. I've just learned to accept and focus my attention on making DS the happest he can be - and I think I do a good job at that because he is totally a cool kid!

I feel like this too. When I'm working, I feel like I'm taking away from DD and work can suffer because I'm not completely focused. I'd like more quality time with DH but that's just so hard with a baby.

But like everyone else, I have a healthy and very happy baby and that's all that matters. FB and Pinterest are fun but I need to remind myself that it's not always reality.

Just last week I was feeling like you. DS is almost 7 months old, and DH and I JUST started painting his room. His head and feet almost touch in the bassinet!! Chat Icon I don't even OWN a baby book for him yet, let alone a damn piggy bank to put one plug nickle into! I take enough pictures so that when I need a "5 month" picture, I can look back to April and put that in (even if it wasn't on the DAY he turned 5 months, oh well!). I too work a full time job plus a part time job, so...the mortgage gets paid, the lights stay on, we have food and clothes. The rest...will get done some day!

You do realize that 99% of moms don't do the things you think they do.

This exactly...don't be hard on yourself. You feed your kids, love them and bathe them every once in a while Chat Icon and you're ahead of the game Chat Icon

Exactly!!!

We put so much pressure on ourselves...at least other moms seem too, lol.

i'm "that" mom that doesn't do most of the things listed. I barely have baby pics together let alone a book.

My kids are happy, healthy and we have a lot of fun in life. Because I don't feel the need to keep up or have the best of the best.

Kids don't need a whole lot. They could care less if their mom spent 15 hours perfect a cake for their bday...making a homemade old fashioned one and slapping some icing on the top is just as cool in their eyes.

My SIL said something last weekend that for a split second made me feel lame..her DD lost her first tooth. She then proceeded to show me what the tooth fairy left...gold earrings from nordstrom, lol. My son goes "oh our tooth fairy left us a few bucks" lol!! I was told "the west windsor tooth fairy leaves jewelry and toys".

Good god, who has time for it?? Lol. I went back to being my mediocre self within a minute. Lol.

We're all doing the best we can. It's not a "fail"!!!

I do it all to be honest, but I enjoy it. I plan fun parties, sew cute outfits for my daughter, bake great things, volunteer when I can. But I would never begrudge people that don't do that stuff. It seems it's okay to judge the moms that do though. I see slams against creative, organized mommies all the time, which I think is wacky. Live and let live!

Don't be so hard on yourself. As someone who has seen the posts and know the people making them, I can assure you many of the times it's just glorification for the one thing they did right.

I have spoken to many of those moms and they have "I meant to do" days all the time.

I do what some don't, and don't what others do
I guess it varies on interest time and ability
What I do know is, I'm functioning on like 60 percent, just making it most of the time, exhausted. Kids seem happy and healthy though

I look at some moms who are always going somewhere w their kids, doing activities/classes, throwing parties, etc. i start to feel like im dropping the ball as a mom and then i remember the grass isnt always greener. Chat Icon theres no mom of the year awards being handed out. I love my kids more than the air i breathe. I dont think they care if we arent going somewhere cool every weekend. I work full time. On saturday mornings my kids are just happy i can sit and have breakfast w them!

DD is two. I only did up to month 7 in her baby book. I don't print pictures. They're just haphazardly downloaded to my computer. I take a lot of pics on my phone and a lot less on my camera and just download when I run out of space. I don't even have them downloaded in organized folders. I don't belong to pinterest. I barely cook dinner.

Please do! I would read that!

Dh and I have been eating cereal for dinner about 4 nights a week. I haven't cooked an actual dinner in maybe a full month now. I'll eat anything and dh is picky so it's actually gotten to the point where we look forward to our cereal dinners. I'm not sure where my measuring cups are... The only thing I measure out is water to steam baby stuff in the microwave but I use one of her bottles for that.

If there's one thing I've learned since becoming a mom is you can't compare yourself to other moms. What works for one mom may not work for you. If you and your kids are happy and healthy that's all that matters.

Before having kids I was the uber creative person that had to DIY everything. Having kids changed that. I still love planning parties, and I still DIY things, but I have also taken many shortcuts that I would never have done in the past. And I'm totally OK with that. As long as I'm sane, everyone else around me is usually ok. Chat Icon

A kid will never say "geez I wish mom would stop spending all this time with me and start framing my onesies in shadow boxes and ignore me to write about me in her baby book!"

All that Pinterest crap is NOT for the kid. Trust me. Perfectly created crafts are nice, but my son spent the weekend covered in mud catching frogs. And he was ecstatic. I pulled a few ticks off him, threw him in the bath, and I don't have one pretty thing to pin. Oh well.
