Would you take a new baby to shower/EBF question?

I just had a baby last week and am in my cousin's wedding in August. Her surprise shower is next weekend. I am EBF and do not introduce a bottle of pumped milk until the baby is almost 4 weeks. So I either leave the baby with DH and go for 2 hours or so and hope she is not too fussy when I am gone and leave early to BF. My mom wants me to bring the baby so I don't have to leave early and can BF her there. I am a bit nervous because she will be just shy of 3 weeks. The shower is a restaurant and small with only about 25 woman. What do you think? Too early to have her around that many people?

If it was me I wouldn't bring a baby that small around all those people. Especially since it's family, you know everyone is going to want to pass her around.

That's just me though

Would you take a new baby to shower/EBF question?

I jut had my shower and a friend brought her 4 week old who she EBF. She did it right there while covered up. I don't think anyone even noticed and if they did, who cares!!
She is very laid back when it comes to bringing the kids out so early. I think maybe two other woman held the baby when he used the restroom, otherwise she was left alone. I don't think I would've done it though. I'm just so paranoid! But this is her second, so I think she's a bit more lax now!!

I would and I would keep her in the infant seat with a blanket over. Let people look but not touch.

I would...I just took my ds to a birthday party and he was two and 1/2 weeks old....I didn't let anyone hold him, he stayed in the infant carrier in the snap and go...I only took him out to feed him and put him right back...he slept the whole time and it was very easy and me, my dh and dd got to enjoy ourselves

When DS was three weeks old, we took him to a first birthday party and a graduation party.

I would ask your aunt if it's ok to bring the baby. If so, I'd bring her. I brought my son to my mothers retirement party at 4 weeks old, there were 150 people there. I just kept him in his car seat, it was fine and he basically slept the whole time.

I'd make sure it's ok first and if so, I'd bring her.

I agree. And I wouldn't ask permission to bring the baby, but I would let the host know so hopefully the could find an end seat or somewhere where there will be room for the baby's carrier/stroller.

I would bring the baby. When people say no kids, they generally do not mean newborn infants. I dont think anyone would mind a mother bringing a newborn, a new baby needs to eat!

Are there going to be other small children there? My EBF DD was 4 weeks old the day of my BFFs baby shower. I kind of implied I wanted to bring my DD but she mentioned that her whole family was fighting a nasty cold. So DD stayed home. So, I would check with the people hosting the party first.

If you can, I would totally bring the baby.

Honestly there's no need for the infant seat lol. If it's OK with the bride just bring the baby and he will likely just nurse the whole time haha.

Same here. DS2 was born in July. I took him to a birthday party for DS1's good friend at 3 or 4 weeks and then had to take him to an OOS wedding when he was 5 weeks. I mostly kept him in the car seat with a blanket over him.

I would do this but I didn't EBF so I wouldn't of brought a u of my kids and my first i probably def wouldn't have fory second I did bring him out that early to a restaurant for breakfast with Santa and he was in the car seat covered the whole time.

ETA both my kids were basically winter babies if I had spring/summer babies I might have felt differently about taking them out.

Absolutely bring the baby! Just keep her in the Carrier with a blanket over it, so people don't breathe on her/touch her.

Me too. When my youngest was almost 3 weeks I took her to a kids bday party. It was fine.

Re: Would you take a new baby to shower/EBF question?

I just missed my best friend's daughter's christening yesterday (I was supposed to be her Godmother but they had to ask someone else since I couldn't be there Chat Icon) because I didn't want to take DD out to a party yet (she was only 12 days old yesterday). I just wasn't comfortable bringing her around 100 people in a catering hall, with a lot of kids running around. I am EBF too (not pumping yet) so I couldn't leave her at home with DH.

That being said, that same friend brought her daughter to my baby shower. She was exactly 1 month at the time and my friend just nursed her at the table, with a nursing cover. It's her second baby…I don't think she would've done it with her first son.

It all depends on what you're comfortable with.

i'm very relaxed .. so my dd went to an engagement party at 3 weeks and all my aunts were passing her around.
At the same party there was a 4 week old and an 8 week old.
i wouldn't let strangers all over her, but a family party I don't mind at all.

Totally bring her (if it's okay with your Aunt)!! I never understand not taking a baby out because your afraid of crowds, if you take them to the Pediatrician the same doctor that touched other sick kids touches your brand new baby :) With that said I am very relaxed about that type of thing!

I would. When I had my older DS, I brought him to a memorial day bbq at my friends house when he was 3 weeks old, I had my younger DS at Easter dinner, with about 18 people, at 6 days old. Just keep the baby in the infant seat and ask that no one touch her.
