Re: Any cute ideas for first day of Kindergarten?
When my DD started Kindergarten this year I made her a special dinner and cake that day so she had something to look forward to when she came home.
Also, in case she felt lonely that first day I tucked a picture of her family in her schoolbag. I told her if she felt sad or lonely during the day to go look at her picture so she would feel better and know we're all waiting for her.
If it makes you feel better, she did amazing. She got on the bus with no problem and had a great day. I was the one who was a wreck!! Kids roll with it much better than us moms I think!!

Re: Any cute ideas for first day of Kindergarten?
I thought about driving her too but I decided that it was best if I just let her go. I really struggled with it but I don't want her to be afraid of doing things and she was SO excited about going on the bus that I had to put my fears aside. I feel you, truly, but from experience you will be happy you put them on the bus. They will be okay and likely do WAY better than you think!!
I know the peanut allergy is scary, maybe try getting in touch with the school beforehand and let them know your concerns. Maybe they can ease your mind. I know my DD's teacher was really on top of that, she had two kids in her class with allergies this year.
It'll all go better than you think..........and this is coming from someone who was dreading Kindergarten from the day she was born and was a complete disaster on the first day.
ETA - Check with the school but at my DD's school you can actually follow/meet the bus. So after I put her on I ran over to the school and met her in the bus circle. I got to see her pull in and get off the bus and she was so happy about that. It also made me feel better to know she got there ok and was happy and not upset at all.

Re: Any cute ideas for first day of Kindergarten?
I got her the book The Night Before Kindergarten and read it to her, the night before...; got her special PJs to wear the night before (They said Brightest Crayon in the Box); made her a Schultute (a German tradition...where you fill a cone with little presents. I filled mine with some 1st day of school cookies, school theme stickers, a new book about school, and some pencils, erasers, etc from the dollar section); then I made her favorite dinner; and got an ice cream cake with a picture of a school bus on it.
Her PJs and book
Ballons at the breakfast table
My version of a Schultute
Contents of her Schultute
Book I put into it
Ice cream cake for dessert (I had to supply the pic for Carvel to put on the cake)

As far as the bus goes, with a peanut allergy you can get a mini bus. Many kids in our district do that.
I drove my DD in K, and still do. I live 2 minutes from school so don't mind drop off/pick up. I get to chat with the teacher if need be. I also didn't like that the bus comes 30 minutes before school starts, and that our school doesn't allow them OFF the buss until school starts, so some kids are sitting on the bus for 20 minutes in the parking lot.
