X-Post from Pregnancy: She's Here
I went in to be induced last Monday at 40w1d due to unexplained elevated AFP levels. The high-risk dr. at my practice didn't want me going too far past my due date. My midwives didn't necessarily agree but we went with it.
I went in at 7pm to start Cervidil. It was finally inserted at 10pm and I was only 1cm and ~60% effaced, with very slight contractions--couldn't even feel them, just saw them on the monitor. My contractions started coming on super strong and close together within a couple of hours. At 3 a.m., I asked to be checked again. I was in so much pain but still only 2 cm and 100% effaced…I thought I was gonna be at least 5cm, lol. I got a small dose of Stadol around 3:30 a.m. so that I could try to get some sleep & take the edge off because my contractions were so intense. That didn't really do much, besides make me a little loopy…I still felt every contraction fast and strong.
A little after 6am, I got up to pee. All of a sudden, I had the urge to push. I told my husband and he ran to the nurses station right outside my room and he said the rest was like a movie. 5 nurses all jumped up and ran in my room. At this point, I was standing as I had just left the bathroom & because I felt like if I got back in bed, I would crush her b/c it literally felt like her head was coming out. The nurses and midwife, Chris Kocis (who is amazing) got me into bed & then I hear, "Ohh, your baby has hair!" I'm like, OMG, I am really having her right now. Next thing I know, I am being rushed from Antepartum to Delivery. I hear them say there's no time to switch me onto a delivery bed and we just had to go, baby girl wanted out. I pushed a couple times as they transported me to Delivery and then a couple more pushes in the delivery room and out she came! I couldn't believe I did it without an epidural. I felt like Superwoman The whole thing happened so quickly and it was such a surreal experience. They had to sit my DH down right after she was born and give him juice and got the smelling salt ready, they all thought he was going down, lol.
Brielle Grace was born at 6:37 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, coming in at 7 lbs. 1 oz and 19.75" long. She's absolutely perfect and we're so in love
