Backyard Party
How much approximately do you think is a normal price to spend on a brunch in the backyard for a birthday party?
40 guests. Seems i try to keep things simple & it adds up quick...

Yup. I learned as well it's pretty much comes to the same cost as having it at a place. Maybe a bit less, but then you have less stress... worrying about weather, everything perfect, working on getting food ready, etc.
I do both and I have to say there are pros and cons to each. As you saw in my other post I had a nightmare at a sports place. Funny thing is I wound up inviting half the guests back to my house and it was party take 2.
I prefer catered subs and make ahead foods so you are not spending the entire time in the kitchen.

I've always done my sons bday parties at the house & if you do it right you can get away fairly cheap. His 3rd bday thus past fall cost us about $250 when all was said & done & the kids had a BLAST!!!!
ETA: we have about 40/45 ppl at his parties

We have never been able to cater for 40, even if we cooked ourselves for under $300. we do go overboard on food though, but i'd say you should probably be able to do it for $300.

I saw you posted about a tent rental in another post. If you're doing a tent also that changes things considerably. I'd say 40 people, brunch, with a tent, probably $800. The tent alone is a few hundred.

It really depends on your expectations. I did my daughters christening brunch for about $600 for 27 adults and 11 children. I prepared a lot of the food myself with help from my mom. I catered sandwiches and ordered pizza for the kids. I did not have a full bar just bloody Mary's and a mimosa/Bellini bar. I served juice, ice tea, water and soda.

It definitely adds up. Having it at home can be as expensive if not more than having it at a place. We had DS1's 1st bday at home, outside under a tent, with 65 guests and no entertainment. It was $2500 (at least that's when I stopped giving DH the receipts, lol). It was great though, I wouldn't have changed a thing! (altbhough I could have easily spent more).

Brunch could def be done in the cheap. I would do bagels and you could make a few quiches and a French toast bake. Fruit. The most expensive thing would be the tent. Food could def be under 200

I've done a bunch of parties at home and $250 is amazing!
I'm planning my twins' 1st birthday at my home for later this month and it's out of hand.
Entertainment - $350
Tent, Tables, Chairs - $320
Food is probably going to bring us to well over $1k.
We're having about 60 people.

me too!
for my son's 3rd bday we had 40 ppl (including children). kept the food simple with pizzas (and cake/dessert) and we turned the backyard into a fall harvest. i found small pumpkins at king kullen that were cheap & bought a bunch & scattered them in a bunch of hay in the back yard... the kids went "pumpkin picking" and then painted their pumpkins at a table i set up in the yard & supplied paint/decorations
my husband attached a wagon to the back of his ride on lawn mower and gave all the kids hay rides. we also had a pinata & i planned my own little party games. i also kept the decorations very simple
everyone had a blast!! i will add my sons bday is in sept
