Identifying all the letters

At what age was your little one able to do this?

I don't mean a few letters, but basically the entire alphabet. If you showed them a word, can you point to a letter and they yell out what it is.

DS is almost 3 and can do all the letters except 2 (M and Y). I swear that he learned from the app called Endless Alphabet. It is really great and I rec. it to everyone.

DD is pretty good at it now at 3.5
Every now and then she confuses or misses a few.

DD was obsessed with the alphabet when she was younger and by 18 months she could identify them all. She eventually lost interest and now, at just over two, she gets maybe half right on the rare occasion she'll even try.

4.5 years old when he knew all of them. He was a late bloomer.

Hey there! M could do that at a ridiculously early age, like 2.5? BUT, now at 3.5 she has no idea how half of her toys work (my 1 year old figures them out faster than she does.) I think they're all different and all have their specialties. I think with Kindergarten being so intense now they should know it before they start, but your M is only 3.5, I wouldn't sweat it!!!!!

Sidenote - she learned a TON about letters from her LeapPad "Letter Factory" game.

My oldest could identify all the letters of the alphabet and numbers up to 10 by 18mths

my youngest is 3 and has NO interest. I try but she just doesn't care lol

I honestly don't think that's a late bloomer.
I feel like knowing them all before 4 is probably early.
But who knows?

I thought so too. But with all the pressure and programs kids do these days, I felt like he should've been able to write a thesis just to enter Kindergarten.

Uppercase letters: about age 2.5.

Identifying lowercase and uppercase: 3.5-4.

DS was between 2/2.5 when he could tell me what all the letters were. which is pretty early I think. It was just something he was into I think so he picked it up fast. I never like formally worked on it with him. we did those foam bath letters during his bath. I would put a bunch in there with him and tell him " give me the "L", or whatever. or I would show him one and have him tell me what it was and then throw it in the water with him. it was low key and fun for him I think. he also learned a lot of them from watching "Super Why" on TV HAHA
hes 3.5 now and kinda scares me sometimes with it LOL the other day, we were in a shopping center with a GNC store. and he said 'Look, mommy!! its a GNC store!" or he'll see a stop sign- "Look, mommy!! S- T- O-P means stop!" its CRAZY what these kids pick up!
buts its definitely all about what interests them, just like with adult haha

DS is 2 1/2. He knows all the letters upper and lower case. When he has his EI evaluations done everyone is so impressed that he knows them all. They told me it is something that they look at around 3.5 to 4 years.
His first SEIT almost fell out of the chair when he sang the ABC song and promptly told me that was awesome and that her son still has problems at 4.
Every one learns and develops at a different rate. My son only has a vocabulary of about 50 consistent words. Yes he knows his letters but has delays in many other areas.

We have the leap frog scribble and write and i attribute that told him knowing his letters. He was obsessed with it when he first got it. Now a year later he still plays with it incessantly. And he likes to hold it upside down no matter how many times we tell him to turn it the right way and so he can identify his letters upside down too. His cousins are 3 and are just starting kto identify letters.

Around 3.5. I would HIGHLY recommend the Letter Factory movie. So great for learning letters and their sounds

We taught DS (almost 4) sounds instead of letters.
So, he's reading but doesn't know the name of letters.

There's lots of ways you can do it & lots of ages that kids can grasp...

I know I learned the summer before kinder & I'm ok.

SIL is a preschool teacher & most kids don't know in her class coming in.

Best money ever spent on educational items IMO was preschool preps line of videos. Ds1 got the meet the sight words at 3yo and was reading within months. It was amazing.

So with ds2 I bought meet the colors, letters, numbers , shapes set. He knew all upper and lower case letters shortly after turning 2. We were floored. I think it helped having an older brother in school BC he had a natural interest in it BC his brother would watch with him and write letters for him etc. But I think the videos really did it.

My daughter knew all her capital letters at around 20 months. She was kind of obsessed at the time and really picked them up on her own. She has no interest in the lower case, and obviously, it's not something I'm pushing, since she's not quite 2 yet.

DD knew them all before she was 2. We didn't really push it with her, but her favorite songs and games were alphabet-related. We had letter magnets on the fridge that she was obsessed with, and foam letters for the bathtub. But probably the thing that taught her the most was the Signing Time "ABC Signs" DVD. We have a bunch of the Signing Time videos and this was her favorite for a while. It goes through every letter of the alphabet, shows you what it looks like over and over, and shows you the signs for each. Every few letters, there's a song. DD learned every letter of the alphabet and could recognize every sign by the time she was 22 months because of these things.

But again - she loved it! She had absolutely no interest in puzzles or drawing or other things that plenty of 2-year-olds do. Each kid has their own interests.
