For those who have Mirena
I am going to get the Mirena IUD but I am trying to figure out the best time. I have read that you could have very irregular and heavy bleeding for the first 3-6 months. I am just wondering if this is the best time if that is really the case. With the summer coming up and I am going on vacation in July I don't know if I want to have my period for the next 3 months. If you had the Mirena put in would you do it now and did you bleed a lot after? TIA!

it wasn't so heavy after the first few weeks but it was CONSTANT !! Annoyingly heavier than a spotting but less than a light period so it was never ending panty liners. I didn't think about that when I had it put in. But I would say 2months before it was 'regular' then it died away completely within 6 months. Oct got it, by xmas I was regular, then by April I stopped having them all together.

Thanks so much for your reply! I am leaning towards waiting until after the summer.

I wouldn't let that stop me. I had it put in late December. Had a bit of irregular spotting in Jan, Feb, but pretty much around when my period would have been due anyway. By March it was really barely there, and then completely gone. Never was it heavy bleeding.

Re: For those who have Mirena
I got in August of last year, still have annoying spotting till this day. Never any heavy flow. But honestly I would rather get a heavy flow and know that in a week it will be over. I get this annoying spotting for 2.5 weeks, bloated for a few days before that which only gives me less than a week out of the month to feel normal. Doctor told me to give it a year but I made an appointment to remove it next month. Everyone is different so it might work great for you.
