Is it wrong to want to be alone?

Some days I just want to be alone.

No family
No friends
No work
Not even in my own city

I want to be alone somewhere else for a few days to recharge

I think I'm missing my younger years a bit. I used to pick a city every year and just go. All by myself. Visit tourist spots, sit in my hotel room. Just do NOTHING!

Lately with all the stress, I've found myself thinking.... can I take a break for a few days, would it be wrong?

Of course I took all of 1 full day in NYC for the museum and I felt so guilty about leaving AJ and hubby behind then when I got there I said "man I should have taken at least another day to just decompress"

So.. what do you think?

I'm seriously considering a yearly plan to just run away for a week. Don't think I could do it for longer or more than just once.

This has nothing to do with my relationship. I am happy and I adore my daughter. Just want a little bit of me time. And 'me time' is travel time.

I'm the same way! I'm just generally a loner. I'm an only child and I enjoy my own company. I wish I could take a break and run away alone for a few days! Just enjoy the silence!!
In reality though I would miss DS terribly so I don't think I would be able to do it until he was much older.

I don't have kids, but do I have a high stress job, house, husband pet. I'm up at 7am and not home till 7pm.

It's critical for YOUR well being Nd mental happiness to do what you need for yourself. Taking 2 or 3 days for yourself HELPS your family. If it helps you and makes you a happier, healthier mom/wife do whatever you need to do that.

If that means taking a mental break from the 24/7 job of being a mom then do it.

I would probably never do it, but I sometimes fantasize about just being alone for a few days. Where no one knows me. I think it's pretty normal.

I accidentally voted yes but I meant no.

But I crave this as well. I would never be able to do it, least not until DS is much older, but even then, it probably wouldn't happen. I fantasize about it a lot. I need a break from taking care of everyone else and take care of myself for a change.

I'm like this, I'm an introvert and love it. I need days where I am alone, just me, go as I please, decompress. I am fine with not needing to socialize. Some days I take off work, and just be.

there are some days that I am just so "touched" out... I want nothing to do with anyone.

Everyone needs, wants ... all day, every day. Its hard, its normal. Take your alone time!

I tell DH that I want to take 4-5 days and go somewhere tropical, alone Chat Icon Drink in my hand, feet in the sand, NO ONE bothering me or asking or demanding for something. No one knows me. Ahhhh. sounds great Chat Icon Chat Icon

If I had tons of money I'd create a resort of loners. And have a section for moms.. where they catered to moms who may or may not log into work while out or just want to sit somewhere with liquor, no cartoons and some foot boy offering shade, laundry service with folded clothes for you and turn down service. Your selection of foods all prepared head of time so you can choose what you want or go random. Each room sound proofed so you can't hear a peep and darkened curtains to sleep in. Mandatory siestas on a hammock or pedicure and manicure with quite attendants. With the optional free calls home with video chat. LOL

This! I don't even mind a few hours. Sometimes I just get a recharge by going to the salon for a pedicure or shopping without the kids. It's nice to sit and read and just have no thoughts! I feel like all I am doing is planning and thinking and more planning... work, the kids, bills, house, etc. I just don't want to think. I'd just love to sit on the beach too.

Not even sure I could do an entire day alone. I'd love to be with my best friends. They make me laugh and I always love good company to joke around with, drink, eat, etc. One night and I'd be good.

I literally have not been alone in 4 years. I fantasize about just being myself for a day or so and how awesome that would be. I would just love to lie on a beach with a frozen beverage and a good book by myself. Chat Icon

Re: Is it wrong to want to be alone?

I don't think it is wrong.

I am a very social person, but I value alone time, driving alone, reading alone, just being.

I didn't get married until I was 34. I had many years on my own, doing whatever I wanted.

After a day or two, I would miss my DH and kids.

Re: Is it wrong to want to be alone?

it's not wrong - AT ALL
Everyone needs a break sometimes.

I don't think i'd enjoy a whole week completely alone .......but a day to myself? Yes, please.

and a weekend or few days with just DH or my girlfriends? YES, absolutely !!

It's nice to not HAVE TO be anywhere, do anything for anyone else once in awhile

Re: Is it wrong to want to be alone?

There are some days I go home on my lunch break just because its the only time I'm alone in a quiet house... even if it's only for 30 mins (I live about 10 mins from work).

A week for me would be too long; but I could say 1 or 2 days. Just to have some quiet; sleep in; not have to actually do anything.

Is it wrong to want to be alone?

This is my dream. I could totally go away somewhere all by myself for a day or two, go get some spa treatments, eat, lay in my room and watch some TV, and WAKE UP WHENEVER MY EYES DECIDE TO OPEN IN THE MORNING, WITH NO ONE TO DISTURB ME. That is actually my real dream. If my husband does let me do this, I can hear everyone from the guest room so it's pointless.

Nope. Just yesterday I was thinking how nice it would be to lock myself in a hotel room for a day or 2. Just me, myself and I with a few good books! Chat Icon

Is it wrong to want to be alone?

I don't think I would want to be alone, but a few days away with my girlfriends...sign me up!! My DH & my boys are are the 3 most special people in my life, and for the most part, I would rather be with them than anyone else. But that does not mean that I don't sometimes crave time of being something besides wife & mommy. I think I would only do 1-2 nights. After that I would miss the 3 of them terribly.

Re: Is it wrong to want to be alone?

I agree with all the pp. Sometimes, it is so important to take some time out.

I do NOT think it is selfish. Everyone needs to decompress and recharge.

I'm a SAHM (part time WAHM, also) and have two wonderful yet very needy children with me all day. At night, I do bookkeeping for my husband's business. I can be on the "treadmill of life" until 1am some nights.

A week to myself? Probably not necessary. One day to myself when I know that my kids are well taken care of and safe ... YES!!!

Re: Is it wrong to want to be alone?

A week seems a bit long but I would love to wake up when I want, do what i want all day and go to bed peacefully when i want.

It's ok to want / need a break. I still love my husband but I sure could use a break after this week. I have a gift certificate for a massage i got for last mother's day that's about to expire. Shows how much "me" time I get Chat Icon

Re: Is it wrong to want to be alone?

I would never go away for a week but one day would be wonderful. I love to be alone, I always have. I even like when DH goes out with friends once in a while and kids in bed. It's nice to just sit alone and so what I want to do.

Last year I went to Montauk with a bunch of friends during the summer. We go every year actually. Well we set up by the water and I just say in my chair, listening to the waves. Most of the girls had gone up to the hotel pool to gets drinks and here the music. Not me! I sat for hours by myself most of it. I still dream about it.
