Who are you?

When your kids friends visit or you are in their presence what do they call you?

First name

Ms/Mrs. Last name

Ms. First name?

Just trying to figure out what my college friends daughter will call me when I see her Saturday. I haven't seen her since she started talking.

Re: Who are you?

AJ's Mama! Chat Icon

or AJ's Mommy.

Still they just say Hey you mostly and I answer.

ETA:
But I ask AJ to call all adults by Ma'am or Sir. And if we know their names its Mr. Jerry and Ms. Brenda.

I am Ms Veronica
altho the other Asian Mom in our troop has her children refer to me as Mrs. (last name) which I guess is good too. I don't really care as long as they know they CAN talk to me, ask me questions and get my attention when needed. Some other kids are so shy they just stare, nod or shake their heads. Those I feel like saying "Call me crazy lady or you or whacky, just honey.. say something!"

Who are you?

My friends and I are not formal at all so they call me by my first name.

DD calls some by their first names if they see them enough although sometimes she'll call them so and so's mommy/daddy or just mommy/daddy bc she's two and that the role she sees them in.

First name. I was never formal and all my parent's friends I called by their first name as well.
Most times the kids will just call me Mason's mommy though. Chat Icon

Re: Who are you?

My kid's friends aren't really calling me anything yet, but I will be "Jackie" to them. I always called my friend's parents, as well as my parent's friends, by their first names when I was little. When I was in HS, I probably started using last names unless told otherwise.

Re: Who are you?

I go by my first name. We have new friends that want to go by Ms. And Mr. "First name". Sound so weird to me when they correct their children to call us the same. Gives me flashbacks to when I taught preschool!

Re: Who are you?

my first name.

I just had this convo yesterday with a new friend. we had our first playdate and the mom asked are you known as "mrs. ______" I said no just my first name. She said see it's b/c you are from NY :) I'm in CT now. I laughed she sadi her CT'S moms are using Mrs. lastname.

I'm not comfotable using Mrs. Lastnames. It seems weird to me. I called all my friends parents mom or not really using a name at all.My mom is still known as mom. lol

One friend was trying to teach Ms. Firstname but that didn't last and she just uses my first name lol

I'm not offended by any and I really don't care lol

Re: Who are you?

Personally, I do not feel comfortable with my kids using first names. Our very close friends are "Aunt and Uncle So and So," and ideally, the rest are "Mr. and Mrs. So and So." I've trained my oldest to always say, "Hello, Mrs. X; it's Katherine. May I please speak to X" when making calls and hopefully, this always translates to face to face interaction.

As for what kids call me...they usually don't. Chat Icon Again though, for close friends I am Aunt Erin. As for the rest, that's really up to what their parents teach them...

Who are you?

I think this is also a cultural preference. My husband is black and in his family people are either auntie or ms. (first name) Growing up I never called a adult by a first name - they were always aunt or mrs (last name). I will be raising my children to say Ms (first name)

Right now I'm Emily or Aubrey's mom. But I think first name is fine.

phew... glad you posted this.. because yeah its cultural here too. Can't IMAGINE a child calling any adult by their first name!

I grew up military so the sir/ma'am thing was strong but the bottom line is that here no one ever goes by first names. It is a very heavy military town too but in general its just frowned upon.

Re: Who are you?

First name. My DD calls my friends by their first names. I feel Aunt/Uncle should be a title reserved for DDs actual aunt & uncles...and she has plenty of those. I will teach her to call her friends parents Mr./Mrs. Last name bc that's what I did. Same for neighbors and other adults...but my friends are cool w/ first name basis.

Re: Who are you?

I am most definitely a first name mom. I'm not comfortable being called Mrs. It's too formal.

My boys call adults what they want to be called. We haven't encountered any Mr. & Mrs. people yet, but they will be respectful and call them that when we do.

Who are you?

First name- I hate the idea of being Dr. Last name to friend's children. When DD is older I will have her call people by their first names unless they express a desire to be called something else.

Who are you?

First name

I think Mrs. First name sounds like a nursery school teacher and Mrs. Last name is too formal.

Who are you?

IT depends
Children of a few Very close friends use Aunt and Uncle, most of them use our first names.

In our neighborhood most families use Mr./Mrs. last name. I know a lot of children in our community through scouts and PTA so its always Mrs. for those children. My DH coaches soccer and BBall so many of the boys call him Coach John

There is one boys in my sons class that I have known since K that still calls me Jacks Mom - they are in 5th now.

Re: Who are you?

DS is only 3.5... but he calls the people in our close group of friends "aunt" or "uncle", and all of their kids call us aunt and uncle, too. my husband is an only child, and I only have one sister... so I like that DS has more "aunts and uncles" around Chat Icon

for his friends moms... he doesn't have too many friends yet (actually something we've been working on, but that's for another post haha) but I try to have him call them "Ms." or "mr." with their first name. just a good respect habit for him to get into I think. But I don't mind if his friends call me by just my first name, or if they want him to call them by just their first name. and his little friend from swim lessons calls me "Cole's mommy" haha and that's ok, too Chat Icon

Re: Who are you?

I wouldn't care if my kids friends called me by my first name but as a kid, I called my friends mothers, mrs. so & so. I haven't really guided my kids one way or another so they don't call my friends anything yet.
