I breastfeed in public all the time! I use a blanket to cover myself. I live in Mahattan and I see BF moms everywhere. But everyone is usually pretty discreet.

I breastfeed in public too. When you have a screaming baby who wants to eat you need to feed them whereever you are. I would not whip it out for the world to see, but if you use a blanket or something it is totally fine.

I wouldn't be offended but I do get a little uncomfortable if it someone I don't know. I went into the Mother's Room in BRU to change Andrews diaper and their was a mother in their BF'ing. I was a little embarrassed.

I voted that I would not be offended but IMO it depends on how it's done. if it is done discreetly I'm fine with it. but there have been times when I am at a restaurant and the woman has her whole boob hanging out for all to see

I am definitely not offendeded! Hey, they baby's got to eat, right? I do, however think the booby should be covered so it isn't a show for everyone.
I also feel that if the child is old enough to say, "mommy I'm hungry", then it is time to stop. I realize this is a cultural thing because BF is still done at 2 or 3 in other countries but it is not generally accepted here. Not saying right or wrong, just my opiniion.

As a woman who exclusively breastfeeds, I don't think it is realistic to expect women pump and carry a bottle everytime they want to walk out the door. Sometimes there isn't enough milk, sometimes you don't have 15 minutes to sit there and pump and then clean on the parts of the pump. And if you use a manual pump- its abotu 30 minutes.
I was a little uncomfortable about this before I had DD, but after 3 months- I'll BF anywhere. I remember asking someone where to BF the first time I had to feed her in public- I didn't even own a pump at that time. But once you become a mom, its amazing how comfortable you suddenly feel and become a lot more tolerant of other BF moms.

It is for BF'ing and diaper changes. I wasn't offended though I guess just taken back.  She wasn't very discreet mind you

I think our society is out of wack.
it's offensive to people to see women nursing babies- but OK to see all the other garbage we see on TV and in movies day-after-day.
Seriously- what's more offensive- a mother nursing or 14 year old girl's dressing like they are street walkers with their hoo ha's hanging out?
we need to get our priorities straight.

Personally - i do not see what the big deal is - even if it wasnt done so discreetly.... but there is nothing offensive about a woman's breast to me! they are all over the locker room at the gym and they dont really offend me there! Go to Europe and they are ALL over the beach!!! I think that part of it has to do with our perception of breasts in the US.....
I feel the same exact way.

I said that those for women that have the option is another choice and it's a good idea...not necessarily for everyone obviously. Every woman must do what's right for her and her child as long as she feels comfortable and she's fullfilling the needs of her child. I have no problem with women BF in public as long as they do it discreetly. I mentioned the pump because that's a way to do it but I didn't say it was the only choice or the only way. I also understand that for some women that is not an option because of the low milk supply. But as someone said..ponchos are great....etc.....
But you said it's a good idea. It's only a good idea if the mom is that uncomfortable with nursing in public. I say that I think it's ridiculous for a mom who bf's to pump in order to feed her child in public just because people can't stand seeing a breast.
Coincidentally this morning's conversation was why Maddie's nipples are "private" but Joseph's weren't.

I guess it depends on the situation. I was at an affair once with some co-workers. One was only there for a year. She was there without her husband. She asked if anyone minded if she breast fed her son at the table we were sitting at (it was a sit down dinner.) Nobody objected, so about 10 of us (men and women) were sitting at the table and she breast fed her son while socializing. I felt this was very awkward and uncomfortable.
I would not say I was angry or disgusted, just uncomfortable.
I guess if it was in public, but discreetly and not while simultaneously socializing, I would not feel as uncomfortable . . . . Also if it was family or someone I was close with I would not have felt as uncomfortable either

I have a feeling that I will feel this way also. Right now I am extremely body conscious, but after I have a screaming baby in my arms I am sure I will feel differently!
