Worried about DD weight (the opposite issue!)

I have the opposite issue of Kristin.

My DD is 18 months and is 24 lbs. she's 75% weight, 11th% in height.

She loveeeeees to eat.

Does anyone else have a larger baby? What did your ped say? Mine is having me restrict milk (giving her other dairy products in place) and check her portion sizes.

I'm worried! Chat Icon

My DD has always been on the big side. At her 18 month appt. she was 32 lbs. Her doc never showed concern and I don't either. The funny thing is. She's a terrible eater. She's just a big girl.

Both of my kids were about that weight at 18 months, but they were, and are in the 106% and 75% for height so the doctor did not have a problem with it.

What the dr always said was that it was important they were following their curve on the height and weight growth charts. Has your DC deviated from their curve?

Also is your DC walking or running? At this point the dr wanted to see them increase their activity levels.

I didn't think 24lbs for an 18m is was a lot or would raise concern. My son was def in that range & only started walking @ 16 months. My peditrician never said anything.

The 76th percentile is still in the "within typical limits" range statistically.

That doesn't sound very large to me even though my DD was only 18 lbs at a year old. But by 20 months she shot up to 22 lbs. So she gained like 4 pounds in less than 6 months. How much milk is she having? Doctors usually don't suggest restricting it more than 16 oz a day. I feel they need 16 oz a day. My daughter hates to drink but loves her food!

Re: Worried about DD weight (the opposite issue!)

My first DD was in the 90tj percentile for weight and the 50th for height for a while... My ped did say something. His point was that according to the BMI charts she was considered overweight-obese... We didn't do anything crazy and he wasn't trying to chastise us or make us feel bad but just allow us to make the necessary changes... My daughter was a big eater and she loved her snacks.. SO we just replaced them with healthier ones. She still gets her treats and she has evened out... Just turned 5 and she is 41 lbs which is way in the normal range. I'm glad my doc said something so we could make the necessary minor changes... The one change that I think made all the difference is that she only drinks milk or water.. Juice or chocolate milk is only for special occasions....

My DD has been in the 90th percentile since birth. She is 3 and 38lbs right now. My doctor has brought it up. She asked if she is growing like anyone in the family. I was a chunky baby/young kid. I don't have a weight issue now (either does DH) so doctor then said that she wasn't concerned. My DD does like snacks and I'm always trying to put her off. I keep them healthy--fruit, veggies packs, whole grain crackers. I think I feed her very healthy meals. I don't buy juice. We don't have dessert every night. I think it's just her body type for now. Hopefully she'll level off at some point.

DS is HUGE! He's 19 months and 30 lbs (98th percentile). I forgot how tall he is but I know it was 75th percentile. They're not having us restrict anything yet. He's a really good eater but he looks healthy and I kind of love his little pudgy belly. If it becomes a problem we'll start changing up his diet.
