Do you secretly get rid of things?

DH would save everything if it was up to him. He doesn't know what the boys really play with or haven't played with. Plus, he's sentimental. Where I grew up we always get rid of clutter. My boys have soooo much stuff. DH doesn't even like me to give away clothes of the boys. Even when I lent my maternity clothes. I keep things in great condition, but if I'm not using it then I'd rather it go get use by someone else. Either a friend in need, family member or I give it to charity. I have garbage bags of stuff I've given away. He now knows better than to even look in it or he'll take stuff out. B/c they really need that elmo puzzle or game they haven't looked at in 2 years collecting dust. They are into race cars, books, superhero stuff, the toy food, art, etc. They are not into the construction stuff they've gotten (even though DH is a contractor and I feel bad they don't look at it... LOL). They don't play with the baby wood puzzles that we have about 30 of still with all the pieces.

I don't get rid of b/c I'm saving in case we have another, but I go though toys and declutter all the time. Mostly its crap they will just dump out of the bins in my living room for fun and not really play with. Oh and clothes get packed away often too.

I NEED to go through mine and DHs stuff so bad. I just need time.

YES!!! I can't stand clutter!

I have given his teacher 5 bags worth of toys that he no longer played with at home. Between Christmas and his Birthday which are a few months apart there was no place to put things.

So I went through everything - tossed little crap toys and then the rest went to his class. They were in good condition it was just that he hardly played with them. Same with the books - there were some he just never enjoyed having read to him. I saved the wood puzzle for DD. Once she is done with them I will get rid of them as well...they hardly get used.

We are done having kids so I just went through all the bins of his clothes and condensed it down to 1 1/2 bins. For DD I am just tossing as she grows out of things and saving 1 or 2 pieces for her bins.

I got rid of the swing - neither of children liked it, the boppy pillow, the bassinet, the bouncey seat. I can't wait until DD can sit up so I can toss the bathtub. I really hate excess stuff

Every season I toss whatever clothing item I did not wear. If I didn't wear it that means I wasn't fond of it.

Yes. Stuffed animals that she's not attached to and anything w/ broken missing pieces. I hide them first for awhile to see if she'll notice they are missing and if not, then I get rid of them.

We have a tiny house and need the space & I hate clutter.

Clothing everyone is fine with donating or passing along to friends because it does not fit any more. It won't be in style by the time my kids are parents, so I don't save that stuff. I have a couple of items for sentimental reasons in a bin though.

But toys, oh gosh, my kids have such a hard time parting with toys. I don't know what to do. I was able to donate 8 large contractor bags of toys last year, but my house is still over run with toys. My son is much more attached to these things than my daughter. My son would keep every thing if we let him.

I wish, my DH is a hoarder though and won't let me throw anything out. Recently my FIL has been bringing crap of my DH's to our house because he plans on selling soon... all old toys of DH's that DH refuses to let me throw out. It's driving me insane!

I'm always tossing stuff! I regularly go through the toy boxes and throw out stuff that's missing pieces or they aren't playing with. Stuffed animals don't last long in my house. I get rid of them as soon as they loose interest!

My DH doesn't care if I get rid of things but, if the kids caught me, they would want to keep it. I do a sweep 2x a year and usually bring the unused items to daycare.

I hate hate hate clutter and am always donating stuff or throwing it in the attic. Just a few months ago, my attic was so full of all the clothes I saved I had to go through them. I still saved a bunch, but donated so much.

DH eventually gets rid of stuff, but he really lets stuff accumulate!

I thought this was going to be about secretly throwing things out behind the KIDS' backs! I do that all the time.

its probably opposite in my house. i'm saving good things of my older so that my younger can use it. once the younger isn't using them i've been giving them to my sister, sister in law or cousin or daycare. we have way too much and my DH always wants me to get rid of things that my daughter doesn't use, our house is tiny but i don't. i just keep finding better ways to store them. i'm trying to get better, if my older only plays with it for only a few minutes and i don't think the younger will want it i get rid of it. if the younger might want it i've been putting it in the crawl space.

we don't plan on having more kids but i don't really want to get rid of anything incase we have an accident, but then i'd have to hold on to everything until menopause and ...well... that's just crazy... right?

Sad and pathetic use of a vacation day - but I usually do this twice a year.

Just go through everything - closets, bins, toys, clothes etc and get rid of anything they haven't looked at.
A lot of their stuff is still in pristine condition even after the little guy ........b/c he didn't really have an interest in the 'baby' toys, he alwasy wanted his brother's stuff .....
So I usually give that away to friends or my sister.
Evernthing else, donated, or to the curb.

Once my little one's 3rd birthday passes next week, I'll have to schedule my clean out the crap day !!

Yes! I usually have a purgatory area that I secretly put things and if she doesn't ask about it for a few months, it's gone.

Yes. I get rid of a lot of stuff i prob should keep too, but I just feel better when things are gone.

I want to but I have SERIOUS guilt because 95% of what they have were gifts.

I need to go through everything they have and donate it, I know that will make me feel better, I just need a day with no kids. Which means... September

I bag up and donate toys when my kids are not home - they have way too many and have never asked about the stuff I have donated

My DH us the garbage man around here. He goes into the playroom with big black contractor bags every few months and donates the good stuff and trashes the rest.

That is my DH to a T! We have boxes down stairs of "stuff" he saves for each kid for when they grow up. I mean what does a 3 and 4 year old need with 4 big totes full of stuff for them. But I let him do that and get rid of the rest!! I used to secretly do it, but now he knows. I belong to a few groups where we all pass on our stuff we no longer use, so while I give some stuff to others we also sometimes get things in return. HE just doesn't know that we give away a lot more than we take in
