Snack Ideas

Hi Ladies,

I need to get some new ideas for snacks for DS. He just turned 2 last week and he does not stop eating these days so I need to come up with more ideas. For breakfast alone he will eat 2 bowls of cereal along with a yogurt and fruit. He eats a good lunch too either a sandwich, pasta, pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs or whatever we give him. For dinner he eats what we eat generally. He loves fish, rice, pastas anything really!!

He is constantly standing at the refrigerator looking for food Chat Icon Chat Icon But I am really running out of choices for him and feel like he will get bored soon if we keep giving him the same things for snacks. If I give him 1 mandarin orange he will keep going back for more. DH just keeps giving them to him as they are healthy but I am trying to change it up. But last night he had 3 oranges, 2 yogurts, 2 fruit pouches, a bowl of cereal along with veggie straws and goldfish and he wanted more Chat Icon Chat Icon He can get into the refrigerator to get what he wants and also knows we keep snacks and pouches in the diaper bag.

I don't like saying no to eating because he is not long out of a phase of not eating but seriously I have nothing left in the house by Wednesday the way he keeps eating.

Can you ladies give me some more suggestions on healthy snack options as he is a growing boy. He is not a heavy child but I am not letting him eat Goldfish everyday!!

TIA

Re: Snack Ideas

I have to laugh at this because my kid recently stole a fruit pouch out of the diaper bag and devoured it. For snacks we do boxes of raisins (plain and yogurt covered), nutrigrain bars, applesauce, goldfish and teddy grahams. I can use more snack ideas too.

I'm feeling you. My 1 year old is a beast with food. She knows I always have packs in my bag so she goes and takes it out.

I would probably offer something with a little protein to try to fill him up more. Maybe a cheese stick, peanut butter crackers, yogurt, hard boiled egg, whole grain goldfish.

Re: Snack Ideas

I would offer more unusual snacks sinc ehe is in a phase of heavy eating:

Hummus and whole wheat pita or other bean dips

Goat cheese and crackers or rice cakes

muffins with veggies or fruit in them

Try things higher in protein. More meats and less fruits/sugars. It will keep him fuller longer and faster. Eggs, grilled chicken, hamburger w/out the bun, fish etc.

My son loves dried cranberries, ritz cracker cheese sandwiches, watermelon, bamba (Israeli peanut snack), frozen yogurt.

Just a suggestion, maybe he needs more fiber to fill him up. You can give him high fiber cereal, bars, dried apricots. All the lights foods might not be doing it.

Thanks everyone. He does eat Cheese Sticks and peanut butter sandwiches with whole wheat bread. But I must try the hummus and veggies and more nuts. He loves raisins. But I have lots more ideas now to try him with. I will bake some healthy goodies this weekend too. I just feel like he is going to get fed up eating the same things over and over. I never think of hard boiled eggs since I am not an egg lover but I must boil some tonight to see if he will eat it.
Thanks ladies.
