Is it normal?
Is it normal that my 2.5yo says "me sad" in a sad voice? Yesterday we were swinging on the swings and he randomly said it... out of nowhere. He also says it when he is in trouble, or if he hears we are upset with him. But it is very random and he can just be playing and walk away with his head down saying it so its in fun times too. I'm wondering if its him just learning emotions (although he doesn't say any other ones), if it has something to do sub-consciously with the new baby coming in August, or if little kids gets depressed?!?! He also answers questions with "Ok" but in a very sad tone... 
When I ask him what it is, he just says "me sad" again.

Is it normal?
My 2 year old will say she's sad, with a total sad face and sad tone. I definitely think it's just exploring emotions. She always comments if another kid is crying or upset. If she gets upset and cries a little, she'll tell me she's still crying when I try to distract her even though she's not. She's also a total actress and loves to be dramatic in play so I think part of it is just the fun of pretending. I don't see it as concerning bc I think understanding and expressing your own emotions is a good thing.

This! My DS is a little actor. He's also 2 and will say he's sad and puts on a frown face. He'll do it at school too, but there's a little smirk behind it too sometimes. Just playing around with emotions. Sometimes I'll make a sad face too and tell him I'm also sad and in order for mommy to be happy I need him to be happy. Sometimes I just tickle him and other times I play around and say... show me Happy, show me mad, etc. We play with faces and talk about emotions.

Totally normal. My 4 year old nephew does it and it's exactly what the PP said, exploring emotions and seeing your reactions to emotions.

Thank you all so much!!! He's been doing it every day lately so I was starting to wonder. He also puts his head down and gets quiet when I have to drop him off at daycare. I was hoping everything was alright!

I'm starting to realize that even the most crazy, unexplainable things kids do are totally normal 
DD used to tell me her dolls were sad all the time & I thought for sure that she was acting out her feelings but I think she was just learning different emotions.
