Birthday party Memorial Day weekend ?
Hi,
My daughter's birthday falls on Memorial Day this year, but I would like to have a party for her that Saturday the 24th. Do you think a lot of people go away that weekend and/or will RSVP no due to prior commitments? I am really late on getting this together and am worried to lock in somewhere and then get mostly no's. Thank you.

I think that people who are not going away will likely have other types of plans already (bbqs, day trips, etc). I wouldn't expect a normal turnout.

I think especially bc you haven't already sent out invites that you will get a lot of "nos". If it has been planned for awhile and people knew about it they could have planned around it. I would opt for the wknd after.

Thank you both-that is what I'm afraid of. I know that our families will be here so they are all definite, but to have hopes that her 17 classmates will come seems too ambitious at this point.

I would definitely not make it that weekend at this point. You can do a small gathering or BBQ with family that weekend.

Eh thats tough. My best friend always has holiday weekend parties for her dd's and i could never make them cause thats when my family goes away on long weekend vacations..

Birthday party Memorial Day weekend ?
My daughters birthday is the 25th, we are having her party on June 1st, the following Sunday. People usually go away or have plans, I just rather skip it.

DS is a memorial baby too and we chose the earlier weekend because some people come from out of town and traveling memorial day weekend for them is tough. It depends. If everyone is close, I'm sure they'd come.

I would personally opt for the weekend after or before...
I, like 99% of my friends are away for Memorial Day weekend and the ones that don't go away always throw a party. Its been that way for years. And its typically only their fam that goes to their parties since everyone is away.
I will also say as someone who has thrown a lot of parties and has attended a lot, I absolutely hate when a close friend or family member plans a party on a holiday weekend because it ruins my weekend. AND 99% of people feel that way too, everyone complains about the person who throws a party on a holiday weekend. Just throwing that out there to be honest with you.
If you throwing it that weekend I would expect a lot of no's.

DD's Birthday is that weekend too. It is her 1st Birthday so we are having a BBQ but we know people might be away but she wont notice LOL.

Hi! I remember you from the hospital when our kids were born!
We are having the twins' party that Friday night. Most of the people we invited are coming. We just sent out the invites last week. Although some people go away, it's certainly not 99% of the people in my circle----or even 29%----so we chose to have the party that weekend. FWIW, when I went to book the place, we got the last time slot for the weekend so it seems like lots of people do have parties that weekend.

My ds birthday is usually right before Memorial Day weekend. We usually have family parties on Memorial Day weekend. But for a kids party I would try for the weekend before or afterwards. If its at your house then you can treat it as a BBQ- what we usually do.

DS's birthday is also around Memorial Day weekend. I pushed it out to the weekend after. For his first birthday I did have it Memorial Day weekend bc for family we were their party to go to and friends had LO's as well so they weren't making plans yet. Did that the first couple of years and now that DS is turning 5 and we are having parties with his friends from school I don't make it Memorial Day weekend so more people can come
