When did you forward face the carseat?
I think DS was about 2 1/4. I would have kept him that way longer, but he was so difficult to get into the seat. He was pretty tall as well, so even though I know kids can and do bend easily, I felt ok since he was over 2 and it made it just less upsetting for everyone.

My first was before the recommendation, but my second was RF until 22 months. My third is tiny so she'll be RFing beyond 2yo. She is 1yo and still has plenty of room before she grows out of the infant seat!

DD just turned 2 and is still RF. I plan to keep her that way for at least a few more months.

My question is the car seat, most of them have a lower weight limit for rear facing than front facing? Does that not really apply now?
Britax boulevard says 20 lbs for rear, even though it can handle much more than that front facing. How does this factor in?

Honestly, I think I'd be looking for a new seat in that case. 20 pounds is really low - DD hit that well before age 2. We have the graco my size 70 and it rear faces to 40 pounds.

This. Although I will say I read that manual 15 times and it is confusing and does contradict itself. In one place it does say that the RF limit is 20lbs but that is not true, it's 40.
I do wish I did more research on certain types of car seats and height limits prior to having DS. I always knew the benefits of RF but I guess I didn't realize that car seats come in many sizes. DS is a very tall 2 year old and his head is definitely nearing the top of the seat at a rapid rate. I am hoping to make it until at least 2 1/2 but I still wish I would have gotten a bigger seat.

DS is almost 27 months, and is still rf. he is also about 1/2lb away from the rf weight limit, so we will be turning him in the next week or so.

Yes, most seats have a lower weight limit for rear facing, some are the same, like the Cosco Scenera (40lbsRF and FF)
As for the Britax, you're likely misreading, which is easy to do since they stick so much info on the stickers and in the manuals.
The older, white shelled Boulevards had a weight limit of 35lbs RF and 65lbsFF. Some of the older ones may have been 33lbs RF but those would be expired now. The newer black shelled Boulevards are 40lbs RF and 70FF.
The predecessor to the Blvd, the Wizard, was 30lbsRF/65FF
We turned DD1 at age 4 to FF.
DD2 was 2.5 in our secondary vehicle and 3 in our main vehicle, as she topped out the weight limit on the seats we had.

DD 1 changed to forward facing at a little over 3 years old - I think 38 months.
DD 2 is almont 23 months and still rear facing and I plan to keep it that way for awhile.

I switched DS at 2.5. I would have kept him RF longer but he hit the max RF height for our seat.

There are so many seats that are affordable for all budgets that can rear face up to 40lbs 40" if not more, not keeping them rear facing until AT LEAST 2 shouldn't be a problem anymore.

My older son at one only because I didn't really ever hear about rear facing longer then that at the time. The recommendation was 12 months at the time.
My younger son I switched at two. He was hating rear facing and fighting us bad when we would put him in his seat. We turned him around at 2 and he was so happy.

I will have to look again, I swear the sticker said 20 pounds RF. My 14 month old is super tall and weighs 35 pounds, so I was worried about this... I prefer him rear facing because he is quite entertained by his 6 year old brother in the back seat :) even though his legs are squished, he does hate that. I can't leave shoes on him because he will get kind of stuck with legs criss crossed and can't move around.

They typically say "only use rear facing with a child under 20 pounds." Which can be misleading and confusing. What they mean is if a child is under 20 pounds they can only be rear facing. (Which is totally antiquated anyway)

DD 2- is 22 months and still rf but I plan on turning her after 2nd birthday because she is giving me such a hard time in the car!

When Should Your Child Turn Forward-Facing?
Recommendations of American Academy of Pediatrics and NHTSA
The American Academy of Pediatrics has for many years now recommended keeping kids rear-facing until they are too big for their convertible child safety seat.
On March 21 2011, the AAP updated their recommendations in a Policy Statement in the journal Pediatrics, specifying that children remain rear-facing until they are too tall or too heavy for their convertible car seat--until at least age 2, longer if possible. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also updated their recommendations, now specifying that children remain rear-facing until reaching "the top height or weight limit allowed by your car seat’s manufacturer." These updated recommendations are based in large part on the research discussed in the following articles:
A 2007 article in the journal Injury Prevention shows that 2 year olds were FIVE TIMES SAFER riding rear-facing than 2 year olds riding forward facing.
A 2008 article in Pediatrics (the journal of the AAP) recommends rear-facing till age 2. "A recent analysis of the protection provided in rear-facing compared with forward-facing car safety seats has revealed that children under the age of 2 years are 75% less likely to die or sustain serious injury when they are in a rear-facing seat."
The AAP article "New advice: Rear-facing car seats safer for children until they are 2" and a handout for pediatricians to give to their patients entitled "Keep your toddler in a rear-facing car seat until at least age 2 (not 1)."
British Medical Journal (a highly regarded peer-reviewed journal) 2009 article entitled "Advise use of rear facing child car seats for children under 4 years old."
The push to keep pre-schoolers rear-facing is now a worldwide movement! The Swedes, who for more than 35 years have kept kids rear-facing until 4 years of age with extremely low death and injury rates as a result, are probably wondering what took the rest of the world so long to catch on.
