Help me w a crying baby

Our newborn is 3 weeks old and loves to cry and scream
We switched formula and even use gas drops

I feel I tried everything and all he wants to do is cry!
Yesterday I took him to the doctor and he was healthy. Just plain ole colic

Looking for suggestions - I feel like i tried everything from rocking, swaddling, feeding and car rides

Help me w a crying baby

my DD loved her swing..she even slept on it. I guess it was the position bc she would cry when laying flat. Hang in there!

My kids always loved the FP Newborn to Toddler Rocker. It was cozy and they liked the vibration.

Some things that worked for me:
Gerber Soothe drops (pro-biotic) they are $$$ but worth every penny
Gas drops in each bottle
Walking around the house with him over my shoulder
Vibration of bouncy chair
Swing
White noise
Baby may either like or hate swaddle -- try both ways?
Fischer Price Rock N Play -- elevated to sleep. He slept in that exclusively until 4.5 months old!
Pacifier
Gripe Water

Edited to add: i know that "schedules" for a 3 week old seem insane, but i found that once I started having a very solid routine his colic improved. I would make sure that every 3 hours i did the same thing, in the same order, every single time-- diaper change, bib, bottle, burp, play, sleep. Over and over. Once I started this, he mellowed out a little. Always knew exactly what to expect.

Help me w a crying baby

Sometimes they just are colicy. My DS cried for months. I know its not what you want to hear but its a reality for some of us.

Re: Help me w a crying baby

My DS cried for months - 6 months to be exact!! DD was a bit less - 3 months.

What worked for us was Alimentum, Zantac and Ventaire bottles. Also, holding him. I know its a lot and it gets tiring but I PROMISE you it goes by so quickly and before you know it he will be 3.5 years old Chat Icon

I held DS all the time...I slept upright on the couch with him on my stomach snuggled up and pillows all around me and the floor. I did it for 3 months.

It's not the ideal answer but he didn't cry when I held him, so that was all that mattered to me. I did what was best for the two of us at that time.

I miss those nights with him curled up on my chest. DD wasn't as colic as he was and would sleep in the rock and play so I didn't experience those nights with her.

Hang in there...in the end only time will help colic.

Re: Help me w a crying baby

My son cried because he was milk allergic and was in horrible pain. Does your baby have any other symptoms? Grunting, congestion, spitting up(this doesnt have to be there for reflux) How does your Dr know it is just colic?

This may sound weird my son loved the sound of running water. Just stand next to kitchen sink & turn on water. Granted you cant stand there all day, but find out he likes it, then use for EMERGENCY...last resort when you cant take it. We also used a rocking chair.........fisher price rocking chair.

I remember DS liked when I turned on the vacuum or hair dryer (white noise). If I couldn't get him to stop crying, I'd turn one of them on and he'd magically stop crying. Hey, whatever works! Chat Icon

I got this graco swing that glides instead if swings. It plugs in, so there are no batteries to worry about. It also vibrates. It is fantastic and I wish I would have gotten one sooner! My so was th same way and he is so much better now.

Did you try a carrier? Maybe if you wore him he would feel closer to you and you would also be able to get stuff done.

Good luck. I know it stinks but it does pass Chat Icon

3 weeks old is still really young and tiny! I was holding DS all the time still at that age.

If he seems to be crying in pain, that's different than just crying. Crying could just be typical and many babies cry a lot in the first few months. Or it could be a sign of a problem, like discomfort from reflux, for example. Check for other signs of discomfort.

Otherwise, I'd definitely recommend trying the techniques from The Happiest Baby on the Block - the 5 Ss! They really work!

I feel your pain, sister! My DD had colic for 5 months.
We found that the gas drops didn't help her but gripe water did.
And the best way to hold her was facing out with our arm across her chest and stomach, the pressure made her feel better.

Good luck.

If the formula doesn't work it sounds like you just have to wait it out. It took one of my twins until almost 4 months. He cried everynight from 6-9pm they call it the witching hour

Re: Help me w a crying baby

My son was colic and not to be the Debbie downer not much helps

We did the colic calm. Ran the vacuum. Drive around. BATHs at 4 am Held him rocked him etc

4 months it got better

He also had reflux and all the stuff for that made him better but not like his sister

Hang in there! It's so hard. I swear there is light at the end of the tunnel

I remember one night he screamed from midnight to 8 am straight. I just cris with him bc there was nothing else to do
