Pediatrician Advice

I have been wanting to switch pediatricians for awhile, but have yet to pull the trigger. I keep feeling bad bc my boys know the drs well, and bc I went to that doctor when I was little. My boys are good with change, so honestly I think I have *guilt* changing because I know them so well.

I called the emergency line the other morning because my 21 month old sons lips turned purple. I called at 730 am, and never got a call back. I called the office when they opened at 9, and got an appt. I have to say, I was pretty pissed that in an hour and a half, I didnt get a call for that. I am not a neurotic mother, and have been through alot as I have 4 kids, but this freaked me out. I wanted to know if I could wait til office hours, or if I should bring him to the ER.

Am i justified to be mad that I didn:t receive a call back in an hour and a half for this?

Re: Pediatrician Advice

If my child's lips turned purple and my dr didn't call me back I would never go back to the dr again. I switched peds and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I was with a large practice when my first dd was born. In the 3 months that I was there we never saw the same dr and than a dr made me feel bad when I gave my dd formula I threw the towel in with them. I now have a wonderful Ped. She gave me her cell phone when my dd was having a bad bout asthma and told me call her anytime. She always calls me back quickly.

I think if you're thinking about leaving it's probably time to leave. You really shouldn't feel guilty. You need to find someone you feel comfortable with especially since you have 4 kids you must spend a lot of time in your peds office.

As someone who formerly worked for an emergency service it is quite possible that they did not get the message. It does happen. If you're that upset by it ask the office if they received your message and then decide whether or not to change.

I hope your son is ok! Did they find out why this happened?

Everything checked out ok, but we have an appt at the cardiologist this week to make sure. Thank you for asking!

Pediatrician Advice

I switched peds when my children were 3 and 6mos. I was overwhelmed with guilt because DD loved two of the doctors in the practice. The final straw was when DD and newborn DS both got pneumonia after being told for a week they had a cold and wait it out. I had issues leading up to the pneumonia incident, but after that- I was gone and never looked back. My new ped gave me her cell number incase of emergency and calls back IMMEDIATELY. I have had zero issues at the new practice and I am SO HAPPY I left. It will all work out.

I'm glad to see your son is doing better!
