Baby shoe questions

Baby shoe questions

My DD walks well around the house either barefoot or in socks. She will not walk in shoes- she won't try to stand in them. If we stand her up and try to help her, she usually tries to sit down. Yesterday, she tried taking steps, but they were giant steps, lifting her foot up very high. She cries whenever we put shoes on.
Some questions:
For a new walker, do you buy the shoes with "room to grow"? We have stride rite shoes in the size recommended for her last week (seems very big and awkward) and a half size smaller that we bought a few months ago and still seem to fit. The new shoes are sandals so I can see how big they are. Would it be easier for her to walk in the smaller shoes? I feel like I should buy her spring shoes in the smaller size.
Are there shoes that are softer than stride rite that are still good for walking outside?

Re: Baby shoe questions

She should not be in hard soled shoes yet. Get pedipedz or Robeez for now.

Stride step 2 would be what is good for what you're describing. Is that what you have? I usually get a half size bigger than the measurement.

I agree with the PP, stride rite stage 2. The insoles come out so you can easily check the size against her foot. You typically need bigger than you realize. Maybe try taking her to the store to try a few styles. I usually got her the mary jane style stage 2's from stride rite for spring.

Yes, we have step 2. DD hates them.

If she doesn't like the step 2 then I would leave her in crib shoes for now and keep putting the step 2 on her. She'll adjust to them soon.
