American Girl Store

I am taking my 4 year old and 2 year old DDs for their first visits to the American Girl Store.

I have never been either, what should I plan for?

I made a dining reservation for afternoon tea, and my mother in law bought my 4 year old a doll. But I really don't know what to expect. Any tips or recommendations??

Thanks!!

You don't need any other plans. It is a store - not sure what you are thinking you need to plan?

Re: American Girl Store

Plan for spending a lot of money lol

They have a doll salon so you can schedule for ear piercing or other service

As we were paying, my daughter asked for earrings for her doll and they let us know you need to bring the doll upstairs to the salon for piercing...

I would go on the site and see if there are any special events that day that your children want to partake in. They often have cute free things at certain times. If you book a personal shopper, you avoid waiting in the long register lines. They ring you up in the personal shopping room. There are couches in there, and you can pick out what you want, leave it there, and pay after your meal. It's a free experience to use the shopper.

I also wanted to add, the tea food is the least favorite of just about every girl (and adult) that I know that has been. I would see if you can switch to lunch or dinner instead to be honest. We did the tea like 3 times, and the food is not really great at all.

Re: American Girl Store

If it is just your girls, I would add on the birthday party package. It is slightly more than the regular lunch, but they give you items that make the cost worth while. I would also switch to the lunch time as it was really quite good. My brother's GF used to work for AG and said that of all the meals that the lunch is the best. Also do a search on LIF for American Girl Parking and use the link for the parking lot that is $15. Everything else nearby is about $45+.

I agree that you should sign up for the personal shopper. They make everything so much easier and they have couches in there. They also sometimes have a gift from the personal shopper so make sure to ask about it.

I would bring your doll with you so it can join you for lunch. It is very cute.

Re: American Girl Store

Thanks everyone, I was looking for things that other kids enjoyed while they were there. For example, the hair salon or the doll's ear piercing. I know this is going to cost a fortune, so I want to make sure I don't miss anything.

I appreciate the advice on the tea, but it's the only time slot I can get the day we are going. I'll try to see if things change any closer to the date.

I am definitely going to check out the personal shopper, is there an extra cost for that?

Re: American Girl Store

The personal shopper is free, but you need to call to schedule it. They will give you a time for it. When we went, our was supposed to be directly after lunch but the lunch was delayed so I would make sure to add in a little more time.

FYI Groupon and Living Social have deals for Icon parking systems in the city all the time. Usually $25, and there is a garage steps from AG
