Would you go??
My dad wants to take his kids to London for a week as well as their spouses/families. He is paying for everything. It seems like a no brainer but I'm nervous for some reason...my youngest will be exactly 1 year old. Just nervous that it'll be exhausting and not the trip it should be. And I don't really want to leave him behind. I think I'm being silly and overthinking it. I haven't had a vacation in forever...and my dad I guess hit some secret lotto he isn't filling us in on  He said we can rent a flat for the week for me and the boys (and DH), he will be staying with friends who just bought a home there but they don't have the room for us. I'm just worried about coordinating everyone with meeting up and stuff.
Thanks for any advice.

Go. At that point your youngest will be on table food so its an easy travel. When will you get this opportunity again and IMO its not any more exhausting than being home and trying to figure out how to entertain 3 kids.
When you are there you can always send DH off with the older kids if the little one needs a nap or something. You don't need to spend every waking moment with your Dad and the group.

I would jump on the chance; that is so generous of your father. It will definitely be exhausting, but I think we've accepted the fact that all vacations with kids involved will be exhausting and more of a "relocation" than a vacation. But I'd rather be chasing after my son and trying to get him to eat his meals in London than at home! And it helps so much that you'll have a flat vs. hotel room. I think it shouldn't be too bad with coordinating meeting up if you get a prepaid phone or a SIM card.

If my Dad was paying for a trip to London for me and my family I would jump at it. Sure there are going to be reasons to not go, but who knows when you'll get the opportunity again.

Eta: think of it this way, exhausted in LI or exhausted in London.. I would pick the latter ;)

I will give a different opinion. My ds is almost a year and we just went in a two-day driving trip. It was a bit stressful because he was off his schedule. Being away he just slept whenever. At night he did not want to sleep in the crib they provided. And, he acted really wild at restaurants, prob from being off-schedule. And, in the car trip ds hated being strapped in when not tired and was screaming his head off. The only way I could see your trip working us if your family agrees to help a lot.

I totally understand this line of thinking. DD's sleep is disturbed for at least a few days after every trip we take. However, I wouldn't let that stop me from going on an awesome, family vacation to London just like it doesn't stop me from going on a weekend road trip. Hopefully the good memories will stick with you longer than the rough parts. I wouldn't expect everything to go totally smoothly but you'll make the most of it! I think you'll be kicking yourself for a long time if you pass this up.

Just to share my story, I went to Greece last summer when DS was a little over a year. Yeah, the first few days were rough mostly because of jet lag. But once he caught up on sleep it was the trip of a lifetime!!
Go!! Your whole family will be there also so you will have lots of extra hands to help.

My first reaction is I wouldn't go. Only because I know how hard it is going to be with three kids especially with a one year old. We just went to Hershey last week and my 2 year old was a nightmare. Still trying to get him back into a sleep routine. He has been a mess for a week now.
But then it is a trip that is really hard to pass up. All paid for is not something to easily walk away from. So I'm going to say go for it. Just don't expect to keep up with your siblings. My sister has older kids then me and it was hard to keep up with her family in Hershey. They could do so much more then us. My younger one got tired and cranky at end of the day and we just couldn't do what they where doing. Which is fine! Just go at your own pace and at least you have family there to lend a hand if you need it.
