DS holding in #2 - TMI

Sorry to be TMI, but my almost 5 yr old does not go #2 everyday. Sometimes he goes every couple of days. He doesn't always like to go so holds it in. I see it in his face and the little dance he does and I tell him to hurry and go to the bathroom, but then he says it went away. Doesn't happen often, but every few months or more if he's held it in too long he'll have a tiny accident in his underwear.
When he does go #2 look out! It's huge and has clogged the toilet (not to start up on the plunger post...Chat Icon ).
He doesn't get sick or really constipated. Doesn't bleed, but I just hate when he holds it in.

Re: DS holding in #2 - TMI

I am going thru a process right now with my almost 7 yr old DS to "correct" this SAME issue, which started out YEARS ago. He has had issues going #2 since he was a baby, which we remedied and he was fine.

It was only recently (started ~2 mos ago) that he was complain almost daily that he had a belly ache and/or pain on his left side, we went to the Ped and we've learned ALOT!

DS' mind has been trained to not listen to the physical signs of needing to go. LONG story short, we're retraining him to know when to go. We're telling DS when to go - which is something we're working on stopping- he should be able to go on his own, but he's become so accustomed to not "listening" to the signs.

I'm not trying to cause concern, but if it isn't corrected now, it could become an issue later on (even years later - as in our case).

Doesn't hurt to talk with your Ped about it - we're VERY lucky that there is a person in our Ped's office who specializes in "poop" issues and she has been AMAZING!

If you have questions, please feel free to ask!!
