Lovely.. Someone has threatened an elementary school in our 'area'

As in the whole freaking city of San Antonio. Specifically for the date of 4/24. Since all schools are closed here on Friday for Battle of Flowers (huge ending to our Fiesta celebrations).

Gotta love it.

SAPD and all districts in our city have been working to lock us all down. Plus (and I love this) our D. O. G. S. (Dads Of Great Students) have been doubled and tripled up. They are just Dads of the kids in our schools who volunteer to help out. One is always on our campus every day.

We live in a military town. I am nearly confident that although no guns are allowed inside the school (or the premises) there have been and will always be guns close enough.

I predict nothing will happen since its being plastered all over Facebook and every district has notified all parents. All students are losing outdoor time. We have hundreds of elementary schools. Nearly every community suburb has its own (including mine). I hope very much I am right.

I'll keep you posted on Friday. Or if they call down the threat.

I ironically feel like "f-You I won't live in fear" been there done that you bastards. Now you threaten my kid? I am sending her in. I wonder how many won't. I won't tell her about the threat but she's already been lectured about staying close to the teacher and escape routes (old habits die hard).

Ugh! That's just awful! Really hope they find the person who made the threat and persecute to the fullest extent!

Spineless bastards to even THREATEN children this young. Hate people.. seriously HATE people sometimes.. ya know? But I'm glad we were all notified.

Today's the day. Our district is on 'soft' lock down. I had to explain to AJ why we couldn't do our normal deal of walking her into school, getting our tags, sitting with her in the cafeteria.

So I told her it was a drill. I explained bad people do bad things (Something I've explained before for 9/11) and that someone has said they wanted to do something bad to the schools. So all the teachers and adults in charge have decided its best we work on this drill. She knows drills for Tornados and fires so I went with that idea. I said no one is going to be allowed into her school except teachers and students. No guests, no mommies or daddies (not entirely true because if you signed up as a watch D.O.G.S. - men's group of volunteers- you have access to the schools). No one is allowed outside today. No recess no afterschool playground. But she could stay inside and play in the gym and watch a movie with popcorn. Some kids will be scared and all the teachers will be having a hard day so please listen to your teacher very carefully because its very important. No matter what happens I love you and if you are scared.. run.. run for the teacher or another teacher but run.

Gotta love gun talks with 5yr olds!

SAPD says it's fairly certain its a hoax

The school was surrounded by adults and the parking lot had walking patrols. No parent was allowed closer than us (which was about 15ft from the door) and only because the principal saw us and said "hey they monitored yesterday for us, its ok" to the asst principal when he came to stop us. Still I stopped where I was for our goodbye. There's a few reports of some parents in town camping out on the public land in front of their children's schools. Extra cops are on call and every school is getting a drive by from the cops at least once an hour. Off duty military (which is a lot) personnel have decided its a good day to work out in front of schools around town. Vets and getting together and VFWs and American Legion Lodges and forming their own patrols of the elementary schools.

All I can say is.. I wish they were this vigilant all the time. Oh and traffic was a breeze as a large number of parents kept their kids out of school today from grade school (threat was to an elementary) all the way up through HS.

Gave her an extra hug and I'm glad she's in school, but won't lie. 5pm needs to be here already! LOL Actually I'm sure if I told my boss I wanted to leave early I probably could.

I got chills just reading the subject line. Sending lots of prayers your way.. I can't even imagine with angst it is causing in your community... breaks my heart that this OUR reality now.
