If you think she has a milk protein allergy then you should be seeing a GI doctor. She may need neocate or elecare. My baby was a different baby after 2 weeks on neocate.

I had a similar situation. GI dr and neonate. Your ped should be discussing this IMO.

In no way was I trying to offend anyone and I apologize if I have. To say I am on a "high horse" is a bit harsh. I now know why people leave this site. There are way too many individuals who take what others say personally instead of what it is meant as. A place where people can vent, get advice, encouragement and support. I liked the site for IF. As for parenting, I guess people can't handle when someone has a differing opinion. In case you forgot, I am feeding my children conventional formula. It is not working for them. Wouldn't you want an answer as to why your child screams when they eat???? Sorry if I am inexperienced and all I care about is getting my LO to eat in peace. I am just looking for answers just as everyone else on here is. I don't appreciate being attacked as I was not attacking anyone nor am I judging anyone for their choices. As a mom you are your child's only true advocate and whatever your gut tells you to do you do! I make no judgements EVER!!! I am educated thank you very much which is why I know their is more than one way to do things in this world and just because a Dr suggests something doesn't mean A it will work or B you should follow it. I don't take meds so why would I jump to that for my child? That is just me. You do what you want and think is best and I do the same.

It saddens me I will now leave a site that helped me get through a very hard time. It took me so long to conceive and now that I have two gorgeous little girls to show for it I am going to do whatever I can to make their lives as pain free and happy as I can. That is my goal in life now.

Good luck to everyone and best wishes

No one ever said to leave....all we are saying is have a little more respect for others on this site and saying formula is CRAP and in all caps and multiple times is not having respect for others.

I FF my child who was a nightmare as a newborn and screamed 24/7. But in trying other things I would never say BF or organic formula is crap. We all do what we need to to help our children and you are doing what you need to but it was all about your delivery.

I should also mention that the ingredients in commercial formula is pretty much crap. The first ingredient on most is corn syrup solids! Crap!

As far as organic I have not. Cows milk is cows milk. If it is made with goats milk then that is a different story

There are many a many FF babies n here and they have all turned out just fine by drinking that CRAP!!!

Please be more respectful of others

Yeah I was going to say, my DD is never sick, healthy as a horse, hit all milestones early. All by drinking CRAP from day one. Corn syrup solids must really pack a punch!

Ditto to all of this.

I have two happy, healthy, smart, well adjusted FF kids thank you very much. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Homemade formula- have you done it?

FWIW, I don't think the OP was trying to offend anyone. I think she is probably just at her wit's end, and trying to find something better for her baby, who, as she said, is hungry and in pain.
I think we have all been there, as sleep deprived, helpless feeling moms, so let's give her a little slack, OK?

Great thank you so much. If I wasn't upset enough realizing I couldn't bf now I'm being told I'm feeding my baby crap. Aren't you a gem.

I usually dong like to get involved in drama, but It seems as though you're being pushed around for no reason.

Don't leave because a few people took your comment personally. You didn't say that formula is crap or those that FF are crappy parents. You just stated that many formulas contain ingredients that are not nutritious. Not sure why that is so offensive.

I like to stay away from the drama too, but she did say formula was crap.

In any case, she already deactivated her account.

I agree. I think people are getting too defensive. If it is true that the first ingredient in formula is corn syrup, then that IS crap. I think formula is a wonderful thing, we are very lucky to have choices nowadays, but if they are in fact using corn syrup in it...that sucks!

But...is it true? I looked up a few and didn't see corn syrup listed as the first ingredient...

No it's not!

I have EBF since day one, never supplemented. My coworker had a baby 5 weeks before me, EFF from day 1, and when you put them next to each other the only difference is their hair color lol. I don't get this debate!

Thank you...I am so tired of hearing about how 'bad formula is and why people in good conscience wouldn't give it to their child etc...

Breast feeding moms who bash formula feeding moms make me lose respect for all of them. I can't help it, I'm tired of reading and hearing about formula this, formula that. Worry about your own children and what YOU are feeding them.

My DS is FF, and yes, I still stand by my comments about not giving him Enfamil, Similac or Gerber "in good conscience" because of the side effects he had from them, the ingredients, and the potential for long term side effects. If any of those formulas work for another kid, I don't bat an eye. BUT, when FF mothers post here looking for help, some people are not comfortable with running right to medication because it MAY be unnecessary, and it MAY be the formula. Not sure what's wrong with saying that? What works for one person may not work for another.

Re: Homemade formula- have you done it?

And that's fine

I respect others and your opinion on formula

It wasn't for your ds and I'm glad he is better

Calling formula crap is not respect

And people mentioned medS bc usually with reflux medS are needed

That's why I mentioned it bc hearing my son scream for hours and hours and seeing him in pain he needed something else

There is a huge difference

Gina, you know I love you!!!

I agree that calling it "crap" is disrespectful - I am totally indifferent to the formulas I tried, I just say they didn't work for DS for whatever reason, and only really give my opinion when pressed. There is certainly enough mommy guilt as it is with FF, I would never want to add to it.

But, it definitely seems like any time a thread pops up about a crying baby, fitful feeding, etc, the responses are overwhelmingly to medicate. And only a ped should really diagnose whether or not meds are necessary, but we also shouldn't slam people who are hesitant to use medicine. I worry, and wonder, and have done lots of research, about the increased usage of medication in infants. It is one of those topics that we'll just have to agree to disagree on.

At the end of the day, all any mommy wants is a happy, healthy baby. And whatever road gets you there, be confident that you're making the right decisions for you and your baby. Whatever anyone here on LIF says can be taken with a grain of salt.

U know I love you too!

And here is why

U expressed your opinion and reasoning without judgement

This is what I think and here is the research I did and this works for me.

And that's it Never once judged or questioned somebody's choice

It's always a good thing to have choices and opinions and people who support you In that choice

And I know you helped many moms who wanted organic formula

Homemade formula- have you done it?

Just chiming in to say that my pediatrician recommends enfamil premium over similac advanced because she says they do not add sugar to it. Not sure how true this is. Just read this article...
http://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/target-5-sugar-baby-formula-139339308.html
The maker of Enfamil said it does not include any added sugars, including sucrose, because they are not found in breast milk. The maker of Parents Choice echoed that philosophy. The maker of Similac did not respond directly to our questions

I know the OP is gone now (boo) but I have NEVER heard of people making their own formula. Does this really happen? How do you ensure the appropriate nutrition.

Also, sounds like silent reflux to me Chat Icon Zantac could have solved that ... but medicine was a last resort.

Stop getting offended by other people's comments! She didn't insult mothers who give their kids formula, she was simply stating that the formula she was looking at was crap. She's upset and now off the site bc people just don't know how to move on. Let it go, on to the next post please …

And yes, people make their own formulas. Check out the Weston Price Foundation website. I know a few people who make their own and their kids are fine too.
