Please recommend your car seat for a 3yo?
Currently DD 3 is in a Britax Marathon, DS who is about 5 months is going to be growing out of the infant car seat soon, so my thought is that I will give DS the Britax Marathon (it doesn't expire for at least 2 years I have to check got it in 2011) and get DD a new one. I would like to get her one if possible that will last her till she is out of a car seat/booster totally or minimally till she goes to a backless booster seat.
Do these kind of car seats exist? if so what do you recommend.
just as an FYI I drive a Honda Pilot.

I believe the Radians convert from a 5-point harness to a backless booster. I don't have one, but I've read a lot of good things about them.

Graco Nautilus......
this. It converts to a booster up to 100 lbs and will be the last car seat you need.

I have the Graco Argos (which is similar to the Nautilus except you don't have to take the seat out of the car to rethread the straps). Now that the new buckles arrived and it's easier to fasten, I love it!

Re: Please recommend your car seat for a 3yo?
I had the Nautilus and HATED it. The buckles were so hard to do. And it wasn't just that model, or particular seat I had, because I had 2 Graco MyRide 65 seats for my other DD and the buckles were exactly the same. Plus, when I tried to use the Nautilus as the backless booster, DD complained that the buckle that was supposed to go between her legs was irritating if she wasn't using it. She just used it as a regular carseat til I got her a backless booster, 2 months ago. She's almost 8. I had her in the Marathon til after she turned 7. I then got the Graco high back booster that has the LATCH clips.

Nautilus and Myride both have new buckles now, the older style which was on many Gracos and Evenflos has been recalled for being sticky/difficult. Also all the harness pieces, including the c.ro.tch strap should be removed when using it in booster mode.

Ahhhh, didn't occur to me to do this. I figured the buckle wouldn't come out. I was just as happy anyway, as it meant DD was still using the regular harness which made me happier.
As for the new buckles, I tried them in the store and still found them difficult.

We have the Evenflo Symphony 65e and love it. I've recommended it to several friends who also love it. It also converts to a booster up to 100 lbs.

Unfortunately the symphony will most likely be outgrown in foward facing harness mode before the child is ready to beging using a belt positioning booster.
And in this case its not a seat that would be recommended because the OP wouldn't be using it in rear facing mode.

I have the Nautilus for my 3.5 year old 37# 38" son and have plenty of room for him to grow.

We checked out both the Graco Nautilus and Britax Frontier in the store. DS was much more comfortable in the Britax. We've had the Britax Frontier for over a year and have had no complaints.
