Is anyone watching the last HIMYM?
very dissapointed....
I do have an idea however.... maybe how i met your dad will be barney's daughter mom....#31?!?!?!?!

I really had to process this episode for awhile after watching it. I loved parts and hated parts, but overall, felt that the ending of the show really made sense.
I hated:
-Barney and Robin's divorce and Barney returning to his old ways.
-the gang growing apart (made me cry, because it really does happen in your 30s).
I loved:
-the scene where Ted actually met the mother
-Barney meeting his daughter
The jury is still out on:
-Ted ending up with Robin. It makes sense, but doesn't necessarily make me feel good. I really liked the mother, and I'm sad they killed her off. I think it would have bothered me even more if it hadn't be discussed on this board a couple of weeks ago.
I felt exactly the same.
Barney's story - while I hated him returning to his old ways- I liked it.
I don't like that they killed the mother and he ended up with robin. I just don't know how to feel about it.

Basically I hated the entire season except the last few episodes. That's where I was disappointed. A weekend in an entire season then they skip the wedding mostly and go through 16 years in 45 minutes. That bothered me how it was a sloooow season then rush 16 years in an episode.
Yes, same here!
ITA!!! I said the same thing to DH. That we had a long boring season dragging on leading up to the wedding. Then the last episode was everything crunched together.

I was annoyed that they spent this whole season about the wedding and in the first few mins of the finale they are divorced already!!!
I loved barney and his daughters moment.
all in all.... im glad its over!!

ITA with all of this. I still can't decide if I loved it or hated it. I'm very conflicted. Lol

here's my take...i was p1ssed that he ended up with Robin even tho i knew that was going to happen. and when i saw that blue horn i wanted to scream.
then i calmed down and thought about it. the mother's true love was her boyfriend who died years earlier. robin couldn't have children and ted desperately wanted kids. the mother filled that void for ted and gave him children and now the mother is forever with her true love (i know i worded that corny). and now that ted has his kids and is grown he can be with robin.

Can someone remind me about the blue horn. I know its "important" and remember it being in an episode somewhere....but I don't remember one thing about it.

What surprised me is that they called her aunt robin the whole,time, but it seems like the kids barely saw her.

When Barney met his daughter, that got to me. So sweet
The daughter says that they see her all the time when she comes over for dinner....I think by that age, she had retired from WWN and was spending more time with them.
The scene with Barney and his daughter....my feelsssssssss. It was SO sweet and I definitely teared up.
I like what iansmommy said...that's so true!
And Buzzfeed felt like we deserved more:

I actually didn't mind Robin & Barney splitting up. They never really "gelled" to me and I don't think Barney was ever meant to be a one-woman kind of guy. He's a womanizer and always will be... that's just who he is. I do love that they made him become a dad though... didn't see that coming.
I can't believe the mother really died. It just seemed like such a cheap way of having Ted end up back with Robin. I know it wasn't until 6 years after her death... but still. I was just SO BEYOND done with the Ted/Robin thing that it left me disappointed.
It made complete sense to me that Robin distanced herself from "the gang"... I mean, who would continue to hang out with their exes like that? It wasn't realistic.
All in all, it was a really great series and I enjoyed it (mostly). But after 9 years it was DEFINITELY time to end it! Onto the next!

I hated it. If they knew this would be the story of the mother for the last 9 years, there is no excuse for how poorly written this last season was and how thrown together it felt. What a waste.
And I hate that the story of Ted and Robin was filled with so much heart ache and time wasted apart from each other. If this was in fact always going to be the ending the series should definitely not have dragged on for as long as it did.

Also, I thought for a brief second that during the Halloween party, Robin was going to leave, find a pumpkin costume and then come back...until I saw the mother

At first I thought, well, Ted had 2 loves: Robin and Tracy. And Tracy and 2 loves: MAx and Ted. And they both got to be with them before and after being married to each other.
And that the tagline of the show has been "A love story in reverse" which, now that we know the ending, a love story about finding the mother of his children really goes back to being a love story of finding and loving Robin.
It sounds nice until I thought a little more on it. The more I think about it, the more it seems like the mother was used by the writers for the SOLE purpose of giving Ted children. The ONE thing Robin couldn't give him. Robin gets married--taking her off the table for Ted--and he is free to find someone else…or a uterus to create life.
Then conveniently, Robin and Barney divorce , Tracy dies and now Ted has his children and can finally be with Robin.
The mother was reduced to about 20 min of screen time and her sole purpose was being fertile.
It….irks me. So while at first, I was supportive of the finale, now I think it reduced women into 2 categories: mothers and cold, career women. Which is sad, because the show seemed more progressive than that.

I had other issues with Barney but won't get into them.

I read online that there is one unanswered question that will be addressed in the DVD, so everyone is speculating that it is the pineapple incident.

I like this.
Totally what I was thinking. And if you think about it, it is very realistic. The show was called "How I Met Your Mother", not
" How I Met My Soulmate" or true love or "the One" or whatever. People have to make very difficult choices in life. Ted wanted kids and Robin didn't think he was the one. You have to move on. I think Ted had much more in common with Tracy and they were a better match, but as we all know "the One" is not always someone who is best for us or compliments us in the best way, but there is just something about them that no one else has. It seems Ted was happy with Tracy but for him, it was always Robin - she was the one. I did think it strange that the kids were encouraging him to date, even after six years.

dumb question-did the writers write all the seasons at once? like did they already know what was going to happen at the end when they started filming the first season? because i feel like they sort of backed themselves into a corner with this last episode.

the writers knew the finale when they started and taped the scenes with the kids on the couch 9 years ago so they wouldn't age. but they didnt write the seasons at once. they just knew how it would end the whole time.
