Anyone know why u can't use afrin while preggie?
I am so congested I could cry!!!! Saline is not helping at all!!!

My dr said it was okay. I have been using it for like the last month because I have been crazy congested. It definitely does help temporarily although now my congestion is in my ears so I cant hear anything!

So funny how every doctor says something different. Mine said use saline but I might have to do one little spray bc I cannot take it any more!

It was on the ok list from my doctor. (which was very short). I just got over a terrible cold and sinus infection. I used it once a day, only one spray in each nostril, before bed, so I could sleep.

Every doc is diff
i had so many colds recently and he told me only salene drops or mist and a netti pot
Both doesnt help w a cold!

Afrin contains oxymetazoline which is pregnancy category C. There are no large scale studies testing the use of the drug-- some small studies showed a decrease in fetal heart rate after using oxymetazoline.

Try breathe rite strips, they helped me sleep when I was sick and pregnant. They look weird, but I didn't care at that point lol.

Try claritin (loratadine) for nasal congestion.
I heard Afrin is ok but no more than 2 sprays per day.

This, and honestly, Afrin is never good to use bc it can cause you to gain temporary relief, but then the congestion comes back worse... Which makes it habit forming. When I was a pharmacy tech, the pharmacists always told people to stay away from Afrin.
ETA, you can't just squirt the saline up your nose. What I do is tilt my head over the sink and let a steady flow of saline spray into my nose until it literally drips down and out of the other nostril. Sometimes it's takes awhile. Then I repeat on the other side. Since it is non-medicated, you can do this often until you feel relief. Then, once you finally clear up, you can spray the saline in each nostril as needed to stay moist and clear.

I used Afrin in both of my pregnancies and both babies were perfectly fine and healthy. I cannot function if I can't breathe, especially at night and especially while pregnant. Sleeping is miserable enough while pregnant, sleeping while pregnant when you can't breathe is h-e-l-l.
Saline spray did nothing for me and I figured there are a lot worse things you can do while pregnant than having a few puffs of nose spray for a few days.

this as well. I constantly get sinus infections (even not being preggo) and this is what my dr and pharmacist have called a "masker". It temporarily relieves but does not actually work to fixing the problem (Sudafed is another)
