Back from sono... Not such good news
I am 17 weeks with twins and had an early anatomy scan today. It started out great and we found out we are having boy/girl twins. Girl looks great but they say boy's femur and humerus are measuring almost two weeks behind, he has abnormal blood flow compared to other baby, and something with his bowel. Immediately them mention chromosomal issues, downs, all that. I am being sent for an amino in the morning. We are completely devastated. This was IVF and we have already been through so much. I just don't understand. Has anyone heard of this and turned out ok? Thanks so much. My heart feels broken right now.

Didn't have anything like this, but I'll keep you in my prayers. I hope all turns out ok. The amnio is not so bad.

Back from sono... Not such good news
No experience BUT... I have been on these boards long enough to see that OFTEN times these results are faulty!
Also, I could swear that with twins its harder to "see" things and get proper measurements because there is less space (less room to clearly see/measure)
Lots of prayers, hang tight....Good luck today!

Re: Back from sono... Not such good news
I'm expecting b/g twins (week 29) via IVF and it was always difficult to see our baby boy's left-side of his heart b/c he was in a breech position.
They sent me to a pediatric cardiologist, where they still had difficulty, but saw a bright spot on his heart and it was a soft-marker for downs. Asked me if I had an amnio (said no b/c I was 33 y/o), or had any other type of testing. Besides the NT and the blood draw, everything came back normal.
I started freaking out, and when I spoke to my OB she stated that the cardiologist over-stepped and should not have had that conversation with me. I was there for a standard scanning, and that's all he should have done.
Went for further testing, and it turns out that the bright spot he saw was a error and again due to the position of the baby boy.
I know it's not the same, and not what you're looking for, but keep the faith (we're all praying for you here) - and see what happens and discuss this with your OB and genetic counselor.

Re: Back from sono... Not such good news
Are you seeing a Perinatologist or just a regular OB? I would consider getting a second opinion before scheduling an amnio since a lot of these sonos are off...

Re: Back from sono... Not such good news
I know a lot of times these things come back as nothing. I pray that is the case for you.
My ultrascreen came back with a higher chance of Down syndrome. I opted for the Materni21 test instead of the amnio and it was negative.
There are some other heart and kidney issues we are monitoring now. So not in the same situation, but I know how you feel.

Re: Back from sono... Not such good news
I had abnormal blood flow with first baby, everything they said it might also mean, it didn't. They induced me at 35 weeks as they monitored closely and saw at that time that his growth sufficiently decreased and he was born healthy 3 .13 lbs they called it inter uterine growth restricted. he is two years now and caught up. I hope its nothing more than this for you

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. They did amnio yesterday on both babies. Today we will get some preliminary results for Down's, trisonomy 13 and 18. I feel like this is just a nightmare.
