Thursday, November 21 - An evening with Apollo 9 Astronauts Jim McDivitt and Rusty Schweickart
Apollo 9 astronauts Jim McDivitt and Rusty Scweickart will be appearing at the Cradle of Aviation Museum for a discussion about their famous mission and their views on the future of the space program. On March 3rd, 1969, three astronauts, two Gemini veterans and one rookie took off on one of the most important and most dangerous missions of the Apollo space program. Their flight served as the first flight of the Long Island built Lunar Module(LM) in space and tested a variety of engines, life support systems, navigation systems and docking maneuvers that were critical to the success of landing men on the moon just a few short months later.

Saturday, November 23 - Build a Car and Watch it Soar!
Calling all engineers, mechanics, and inventors! Participants will work at home to design and construct your own soaring car! Bring your car to the museum to watch it launch off our 7 foot ramp and take flight across the museum floor! Vehicles can have wings, wheels, or even some passengers! At the Contest, participants should bring a sketch, or photograph of their car under construction. Then, when the car is launched, the vehicle will be judged on how far it journeyed from the ramp to its landing place as well as creativity and ingenuity. When building your car at home please keep in mind our contest rules which are available on our site.

Saturday, November 23 - Holiday Festival at the Arches
Kick off the season in style with friends and family for an eventful day of entertainment, music and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus. Throughout the day, there will be musical performances by the Alternative and the 5 Towns College Pops band and ice skating performances. Hot Chelle Rae will take the stage for our final holiday concert and then, with the help of the Rockettes, they will light the tallest Christmas tree on Long Island. The holidays start here at the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park! Ice Skating Rink opens at 6:15pm for the season.

Renovations at our local mall are complete! Come and celebrate and see all of the improvements and additions (including Pottery Barn Kids). The ribbon cutting ceremony and Walt Whitman statue unveiling will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, November 21, with all other grand re-opening celebratory activities staring at 12 pm each day of the weekend. Live entertainment, prize-an-hour giveaways, food and beverage sampling and the unveiling of dozens of new stores.

Parent's Night Out is offered every Friday night and the first Saturday of the month. This is an opportunity for parents to entrust the care of their child to us while they enjoy an evening out. While at Tumbling Tunes, children will have the chance to play in the gymnastics area, book nook, pretend play space, baby corner, craft area and music space. We have a 4 to 1 ratio of children.

The Police escorted toy run starts at Miller's Ale House in Deer Park. Bagels and coffee will be served at registration beginning at 8:30am and the motorcycles go out at 11:00am. The run ends in Levittown with a free lunch. Prizes will be awarded for the best paint.

When the autumn leaves start to turn, and the crisp fall air is here, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and it's time for Garvies Point Museum's Thanksgiving American Feast. This celebration of northeastern Native American culture has been held the weekend before Thanksgiving for more than 25 years. Hands-on activities during the weekend will be on-going. These will include pottery-making, primitive fire-building and on-site cooking (including our famous popcorn soup). Authentic Native American cuisine; artifacts and tool technology will be displayed. Face painting with natural pigments, and use of the atlatl will also be demonstrated. Movies celebrating Native American life will be shown throughout.

Sunday, November 24 - Long Island Youth Orchestra
The Long Island Youth Orchestra will present the opening concert of its 52nd Season with a performance under Scott Dunn, Music Director and Conductor of the Long Island Youth Orchestra. The Long Island Youth Orchestra, which was founded by Martin Dreiwitz in 1961, is in residence at LIU Post and has nearly 100 outstanding teenage players representing nearly 40 Long Island communities and presents a series of four concerts each season. The concert will feature Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, which highlights every section of the orchestra.

Pump It Up is now offering special playtime sessions specifically for those kids with special needs only. Bring your child to bounce, jump and slide in our private arenas filled with gigantically fun inflatables. Come to bounce, laugh and have fun in a clean and safe environment where you can meet others or just play with your children. Pump It Up is an ideal location for support groups, play therapy and social events for individuals on the autism spectrum or other special needs, their family and friends, and the professionals who work with them. So feel free to bring your Occupational Therapists too.

Thursday, November 28 - 6th Annual NRSP Foundation Turkey Trot
