Edible sympathy arrangement

A close family friend just lost her husband and my family wants to send something edible instead of flowers. They live out of state, so I can't do anything local.

Any ideas aside from edible arrangements?

They are originally from NY, so maybe I could do something local and NYish as long as the place ships out of state.

Otherwise, maybe like cookies or something? I'm drawing a blank on edible things to send.

Edible Arrangements! We got a lot of them when my mom passed.

Oops, sorry I didn't read your post clearly!

I know you said something besides edible arrangements but when my sister passed it was the first thing to go. Also we did get local food delivered and that helped. Maybe you can order from a restaurant close to her home that will deliver and take your credit card over the phone. Even a peapod gift card would be useful.

I have had a few family members pass, and the one thing that was SO appreciated was when they sent deli trays to the funeral home! When my Grandfather died this spring a group of my Mom's friends called this awesome local deli and had a huge tray sent. It was so nice and we had plenty of food for family and to take home on top of what we had. Another group of my friends called a local bakery and had an assortment of pasties, cookies, and doughnuts sent as well and that was very nice.
