For those who have interviewed nannys

I have my first interview set up next week. Does anyone have any advice on questions to ask? I dont want to miss something important!
Thanks!!

ETA: this person is a friend of a friend (ive never met) -- an older woman who has grown children and is not a professional nanny :)

Re: For those who have interviewed nannys

I've interviewed countless nannies and here is what I ask:
Full name
Age
Date of birth
Where they are from and home address presently
Name of references
Ages of children they worked with at least jobs
How long they. We're at their last job
What did you like/dislike about your past jobs
How do you handle discipline, homework, temper tantrums?
Depending in the age of your child- what would they do during a typical day

Will they be driving your child? If so I would want a dmv record. What kind of car? Age?

Do you get a flu shot? Is there anything as far as health goes that would inhibit you taking care of my child at any point?

What was your previous salary and hours?
Do you cook for tHe child?

Is she cleaning for you? If so I would make a very detailed list of what you want done.
Are you providing food for her?

I would start with that and If you have any other questioner feel free to pm me:)

Re: For those who have interviewed nannys

Here's the list I used, didn't always ask every question, but it was a good start...

Experience
• What are you looking for in your next position?

• How many years have you been a nanny for?

• How old were the children that you cared for?

• Do you have any formal childcare training?

• Are you CPR certified? Do you have first-aid training?

o If no, are you willing to get re-certified?

• What would you do if my child was sick or had an accident?

Philosophy/Approach

• Why are you a nanny?

• Why are you looking for a new position?

• What do you like best about the job?

• What's your least favorite part about being a nanny?

• Describe your ideal family/employer?

On Being a Nanny
• What do children like best about you?

• How do you comfort a child?

• How do you deal with separation anxiety?

• How do you discipline children? Give me an example of a previous discipline problem and how you handled it?

• Would you be willing to follow my rules and disciplining/comforting strategies even if they differed from yours?

Daily Activities
• Tell me about a typical day with a 4-month old.

• What are your favorite activities to do with a 4-month old?

Logistics
• Do you smoke?

• Do you have future plans (such as school, a job, marriage) that will limit how long you expect to be a nanny?

• How will you commute to Forest Hills?

• Will you bring your own food or do you expect that to be provided?

• Are you willing to do light chores while the baby naps? Which ones?

• Do you have any personal responsibilities or health issues that could interfere with a regular work schedule?

• When would you be able to start working?

• Would you be available for early morning or later evening occasionally?

Salary
• What's your salary expectations?

What else should I know about you?

Questions for me?
