She recorded this a year ago. Someone on some gossip blog linked this and I couldn't believe what I heard.
I don't know what you all think, but I'm shocked - I think this is so well done.
Her latest video has at least 11 times as many views as this one on youtube.

See - I never see these "stars" as creative in their own right (generally speaking). I don't look at the image they are portraying (selling) and thinking this is how they lounge around their living room without cameras around. I also don't see their image and assume they are on a downward spiral.
What I do see - is a marketing machine. A person who is now a commodity and promoting a product(s). I see handlers and record label execs and talent agents saying "here. Do this. Wear that. Say this. Sing that. Perform like this" etc etc
I see crafted marketing tactics in every way possible - everything thought out and the artist agrees. All for the sake of press, money, fame.
It's not art. It's a money machine. Miley is a brand and like all brands - they have to be reinvented. Constantly. To keep interest. To age with their consumers (I'm older now than Hannah Montana days). I laugh when people say, "but what about her fans? Her little Hannah Montana fans?" Well, they are way older now. Just like Miley. They won't buy into Hannah Montana. They are past that in their age.
Every single thing is crafted and engineered for money in the entertainment industry. Everything. There's no caring about images looking inappropriate or scandalous to a bunch of moms, kwim? They don't care what I think. Or what you think. We have already bought into our idol at the time. We have already lined the pockets of Madonna and Britney and now it's time for younger kids to line the pockets of Miley.
Where do we spend our dollars? Buying Michael buble tickets. Or mantaining sales of our old favorite bands that the kids haven't heard of. We also end up buying tickets and CDs of Miley for our kids at Christmas because they want it - but the buying power is still mostly aimed at the teens.
Many younger singers end up getting swallowed and spit out. They agree to all of this with their judgement zone of their brains not fully formed yet. They may be influenced by greedy parents looking to make a payday of their kid. Their handlers encourage it. No one says no. By the time the child gets older and realizes what has happened - they end up with a breakdown. On drugs. Hating their parents. Maybe dead. We watch. Shake our heads. Sometimes poke fun. Wonder where it all went wrong. They end up getting help. Maybe have a small and brief comeback. But it's never the same again. Not all will go this path. It depends.
It's an entire system. Tried and true.
That's just my take on it.

It really is. Makes me sad. Honestly I kinda like the song "We can't stop". I just HATE the video and I can't stand this new trashy image she has for herself. I liked her so much better when she was still country. She just completely lacks class and that's whats so disappointing, especially by someone who was admired by so many young girls.

Really? I think she sounds awful on "Don't Stop." Her cover of Jolene is good ( I remember seeing that when it came out) and I don't hate Wrecking Ball. I don't even care that she is mostly naked in the video--it supposed to be a vulnerable song, but I just don't understand why she licks the sledgehammer.
