Yeah I'm not pleased AT ALL. I almost liked him throwing Deb off the boat because that's what he did with his victims & he felt she was one of them. But to abandon his son... no. So disappointing.

As soon as it ended I told DH I needed to come on here to see what my dexter girls had to say! So disappointing!!! This whole season was a big let down and I was really hoping the finale would make my jaw drop... But nope... I think with all the twists we have been talking about we could have come up with a better ending!!

I agree, disappointing. If he was going to survive I can't see why he didn't meet up with Hannah and his son. It would have been better if he had died rather than just leave them.

So sad to see Deb die, my heart broke to see her like that.

What were you all expecting!?? Really curious?!? Happy ending ?!?

I thought he was going to kill himself in the storm and then instead of fading to black - they cut to him being a lumber jack! Def was NOT expecting that!!

He loved his family so much and realized that he couldn't live this duel life he was trying so hard to make it work!! Dexter had to be dexter by himself! It actually made me sad that he basically gave himself a lifetime of solitude bec he loved his family! His scene saying good bye to deb had me all teary!

I wished that it was a little longer to tie up a couple of things- but for the hour I think they did pretty good!!

I loved all 8 seasons of this show! I am sad it is over and with miss my Sunday night date with dexter each week!!

I just don't see the point of him changing and losing his dark passenger if he wasn't going to move on and live a new life in Hannah. Kind of seems pointless for him to stay behind if he no longer has the urge to kill you know?

So much of him getting away with killing is related to his connections at the police department, there is no way that he could cover his tracks like he did without that.

the last few deb scenes tugged at my tv heart strings :(

and i was soooooo glad to see him lumberjackin'. just like when deb shot laguerta & needed time to "go nuts" & process, so does dex.

i think it's a nice way for them to leave it open ended for the possibility of more in the future. maybe he does mend & finds hannah. or maybe she finds him.

either way, i will miss dex & deb. even that wascally wabbit batista - loved his face right after they watched the video of Dexter killing Saxon...uh...Dextah? I was cracking up!

Weird how he wore his kill shirt when dumping Deb's body :( Just like another posted said - like he felt she was one of his victims.

Even though I lost complete interest the season before last & literally watched the 1st & last episodes of that season - I was invested in these characters, and loved watching their dramas unfold. It was a ritual my husband & I shared since before we became parents, and we will watch anything Michael C. Hall is in.

And I'll miss watching scenes from Miami too :(

i watched it this morning.

i have mixed feelings about the ending.

with the things deb was saying in the ambulance, i started to think she might not make it.

it broke my heart to see quinn. he did love her.

i loved how batista and quinn reacted to dexter killing saxon! they were in disbelief! batista's face was pretty funny.

i understood dex leaving harrison and hanna. i didn't like it, but i understood it.

i don't think that any ending would have left us all happy... the writing had changed so much in the last few seasons, that many of us were left scratching our heads wishing for the dexter of the first three seasons.

i will say that the writers left it how i thought they would... open to further movies!

I was REALLY REALLY disappointed about Dexter abandoning his son & just dumping him off on Hannah. I felt like I understood him trying to kill himself in the storm, but once he survived I felt like "OK, now go raise your son" so I was really unhappy with that ending of him just becoming a lumberjack, but i read this article this morning and it made me understand where the writers were coming from more:

I was disappointed at first but then after processing it, it was an appropriate ending. He said he destroys every life he touches and losing Deb hit it home. He couldn't bear to be the cause of Hannah's and Harrison's deaths so he eliminated himself from their lives. His battle between normal life and dark passenger life peaked this season and the dark passenger won. And now he lives a life of solitude in the mountains. Without his PD connections and resources, how would he continue his code in his new life?

I didn't like that Deb got a burial like the criminals he killed. She deserves a hero's funeral, not that they had to show it but we could assume they would find her body and give her one if he had left her in the hospital.

I was a huge Dexter fan but this show lost me last season however, I decided to watch the series finale out of curiosity and also because DH had never stopped watching the show so I was almost forced

I have to say, I was so disappointed in the way this series had ended. I understood why they left Dex to be a loner in the middle of nowhere but I just didn't like what happened with Deb. I was never a huge Deb fan and thought she was annoying 90% of the time however, she had been through SO much in this whole series. I liked that she finally accepted Dexter for what he was, and that she went back to Miami Metro and that her and Quinn were getting back together. After all she had been through, it would have been nice to see her get a some what happy ending. To see her just sink to the bottom of the ocean with the rest of his victims just kind of sucked for me. It broke my heart to see him reflect back on her in the hospital when Harrison was born and how good she could have been with him and how happy she was. But, maybe that's the point

Dexter leaving Hannah with his son just made zero sense to me. In my head, I just would have rathered Dexter leave Hannah and Harrison to save them, but at least leave his kid with Deb. I just didn't feel like Hannah and Harrison were THAT close to be his forever fill in mother.

I dont know. I just wanted something more shocking, or something with a little more closure, then him just sitting in a cabin, Deb fading to the bottom of the ocean, Hannah and Harrison getting ice cream, and Miami metro carrying on as nothing happened

I didn't love it, but I liked it. I definitely think they left it open for a movie.

And I think the whole thing about him at the end scene was that he took on his new life, lived on the water at the opposite end of the country in a similar set up as he had in Miami, but obviously still with his "dark passenger". I found it very sad that he doesn't think himself deserving of happiness.

He did it to save Harrison.

I love that there really is no clear ending. He's still a killer. He got justice on Saxon and let deb to the way he wanted
