Does anyone know of a pediatric physical therapist who takes GHI. DD has torticollis.

GHI mommies

We have GHI through NYC (DH works for sanitation) and DS saw Kelly Settanni at Bellmore Physical therapy she was great with DS. We went for about 2 months and she said it was no longer needed. (DS had such a minor case he would not have qualified for services through EI)

Call Early Intervention for an evalution. We started with my twins both having torticollis. They started with EI at 3 months. It turns out that this effects all muscles going thru body depending on which way head is favoring. She/he could need therapy 1 or more times week. My twins needed 2x week each. That could be costly copays if you have to go out of pocket...try them first.

DS's torticollis was a lot worse than DD, so I'm sure she won't qualify for EI because he didn't. We have Evaluation this week.

Do they come to the house, or do you have to goI there?

Keep an eye on the head shape. Many times torticollis is connected with placiocephaly. One of my twins wore helment for 8 weeks for misshapped head

We went to her, but I live close by.

I went to her first because I didn't want to have to wait for the EI process if it was clear that he wouldn't qualify. I toldher right off the bat that if she felt he would qualify then that's what I was going to do. She gave him an initial evaluation and said that it was so minor that he definitely wouldn't have qualified.

We went 2x a week for 2 weeks. Then 1x a week for 3 weeks. Then we did 1x every other week for 2 visits and he was "discharged" I was very diligent about doing the stretches and exercises at home with him and she said that made all the difference.

Re: GHI mommies

one of my girls has torticollis. We bring her to a PT in Bayside. (right across from Bay Terrace Mall) if that is close to you FM i'll give you her number. i have GHI and had a hard time finding a PT that took my insurance.

We have been taking her to PT once a week since she was about 4 months old. She is now 10 months.

I found that the torticollis has delayed my daughter with other milestones. because she hated tummy time (cause it was hard to lift her head straight) she did not learn to roll over as quickly as her sister. now she rolls over with ease and sits up but she doesnt crawl.

so definitely start ASAP

Re: GHI mommies

Bethpage Physical Therapy on Hempstead Tpke. she is only there two days a week.

We then qualified for EI since he also then suffered plagio. He had severe torticolis.

EI will come to your house. Depending on severity- you can get 2x a week.

It was the best thing that I seeked out EI.

At 3yrs old, you would never know that he has this issue.

We also have an appt with a neurologist to see if she needs a helmet. Did GHI cover the helmet?
