introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
at what point in your 2nd pregnancy did you introduce DC#1 to the concept of being a sibling or the fact that there was a baby in the belly?

My SIL, after having two losses, waited until after the NT scan. They didn't really "understand" it until the baby was born though.

My boys were 3.5 and 4.5 so I didn't want to tell them to early. Otherwise the pregnancy might feel like an eternity to them. I told them when I was around 20 weeks.

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
We told DS from the moment we found out. He'll be 3 in a few weeks.
I'm a little over 20 weeks with a belly and he still is in denial
A few weeks agon I told him I couldn't carry him while we were taking a walk for longer than a block because it hurts Mommy's belly.
He looked at me and said:
'It's time for the baby's Mama to come get him!'
I said 'I am the baby's Mama!"
He looked at me again with a what cha talking about Willis face and said 'Mama, YOU'RE silly!"
Denial...lololol

This is how old my dd and ds are.. I made the mistake of telling them at like 6 or 8 weeks. They think the baby is coming TODAY and i'm only 18 weeks!! poor things!

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
We told my 26 month old 2 weeks ago ( I was about 10 weeks at the time) thinking she would forget/ not get it. I told her that there was a little baby in my belly and that she would be a big sister, that the baby was gonna sleep in her crib but that she would get a big girl bed (I really hyped it up ). She got SO excited. She put her face to my belly and said "Come out baby." I told her the baby is tiny and has to grow big before it can come out. Last night, she when she laying down in her crib, she told me she needed the "tiny baby" to sleep in her crib.
This morning we ran into my neighbor (who I hardly know) and she was commenting on how my DD was getting to be such a big girl...to which my DD responded "There a baby in mommy's tubby". I was SHOCKED! she outted me to a practical stranger!! We haven't even told most if our family yet!
I probably should have waited a little longer bc I have a feeling it's gonna be a long pregnancy with her anticipating the arrival the the "tiny baby."

introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
We told DD at 12 weeks because I wanted to tell her older cousins. Well, big mistake. . . She told everyone we ran into. . . Made for some awkward moments LOL and now, every time I go to the doctor she asks why he didn't take him out yet lol But she is very sweet, she lays little treats on my belly for the baby like chocolate or toys. . . But gets mad when I eat them lol

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
DD told ME I was pregnant. The morning I took the test we were in bed and she pointed to my tummy and said "baby in belly" I laughed and said "ha I don't think so kid!" (We weren't TTC). Well that night I started thinking about dates and realized AF was due a few days earlier so I told myself if I had a test in the closet I'd take it. Well, DH was out playing cards and I just happened to have a non-expired FRER so I said why the heck not. Well boom there it was. BFP. I almost had a heart attack I was so shocked. I told DD the next morning she was going to be a big sister. She was very excited.
Fast forward a week and MIL is babysitting DD and before we leave DD says "baby in the belly" and my MIL gives me this look like Wha? I had a quick excuse (preggo brain can't remember what it was right now) and she bought it. In hindsight I shouldnt have told DD so early especially bc she's so vocal. We didn't talk about the baby all that much after that until we were ready to announce to our parents.

he is VERY attached to me. Not sure this while baby thing is going to fly with him. He told DH that he can sleep with the baby in the crib - that the bed was his and Mommy's
He cracks me up!

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
From the second we found out. DD was almost 4 at the time and had been asking for a sibling for a while. Because I knew I would have so many dr appts early on that she had to go with me too we just told her. She was great when DS was born, I think it helped she had a lot of time to get use to the idea,
Congrats btw!!!!!

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
Our ds is 2yr9mo old & we told him & have been talking about it since my bfp! He's my best buddy & I spend all day with him, so I love to talk about it! We also watch baby story together, & we took him to our first appointment; it was so cute bc all day b4 the appointment, he was saying we are going to mommys doctor to see the baby! I tell him to do nice nice to mommys belly & give baby a kiss! Too cute, I can't wait for his sibling to come!! I'm only 8 weeks. ETA: if he was older & fully understood, we would have probably waited until at least the 1st sono.

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
I just got my BFP last Friday (DD is 2yr4mos), I estimate my due date to be around April 24th (DD will be exactly 3), I plan to start telling her around Christmas or if she asks (whichever happens first). I think she needs time to get excited, but I think if I tell her now or after the first sono...it's going to be a long 9 months for her!

see this is kind of how i feel. I'm torn. I literally spend all my time with him and I feel he should know bc he is the most immediate family there is. to me it's similar to telling DH. I actually did find myself saying it to him (moreso bc he needs to calm down and not choke, kick or jump on mommy or play so rough with me) and he pointed to my belly and said "baby". he even kissed my belly and waved to it...but it seems 2 days later he has completely forgotten about it (he's only 2 yrs 1 month) After i told him it occurred to me that after having a loss myself it might be much harder to explain a loss once he "gets it" than it would be to just wait and let him see my progression and talk about it as it becomes more visible. But I do still feel torn bc this is very important for him...and us as a family and i guess i feel like he should be a part of it. But he's only 2...so he doesn't quite understand and i'm sure he'd much rather just play with his toys so maybe i'm thinking too much. My main concern is that he treats me like a jungle gym. kicking when i change his diaper or when he thinks i am playing with him, climbing up my spine and hanging from my neck, throwing himself on top of me (cannonball style) when i'm laying down.

Re: introducing concept of sibling - at what point in your 2nd pregnancy
i think you have to go with your comfort level and how you feel, I had a MC in nov and im so glad we never told DS, but if you are comfortable telling your child now, then i say go for it!! there is no right or wrong answer.
