Update:
Amanda Bynes is still in need of serious medical care.
In a Ventura, Calif., courtroom Friday, it was revealed the actress is now under a 30-day psychiatric hold initiated by her doctor, after she had been hospitalized for 17 days.
Judge Glen M. Reiser agreed with her doctor's finding "of her lack of capacity to give consent for medical care," and approved, temporarily, the actress's mother Lynn Bynes's request to take legal control over her daughter's well-being and finances. While the actress is hospitalized, however, her doctor will maintain authority over her treatment.
The actress's court-appointed attorney, Mary Shea, told the judge her client does "oppose and object [to the conservatorship]. She doesn't feel there's a need."
The conservatorship grants Lynn Bynes, who attended the hearing with her husband Rick, the power to make decisions over where her daughter will live, including basic needs like food and clothing. She also has the power to manage the actress's estimated savings of $3 million.
Amanda, who was expected to show in court, did not attend the hearing. "I do still want to have a dialogue with [her]," the judge stated.
Lynn Bynes will remain temporary conservator until Sept. 30.

Amanda Bynes has been placed on an immediate, extended 30-day psychiatric hold, ahead of a planned conservatorship hearing Friday morning in L.A.
Doctors at the psychiatric hospital where the troubled actress has been held the last two weeks determined she was not well enough to leave the hospital to attend the hearing, where Bynes's parents are trying to win temporary conservatorship.
Bynes's doctors went to the judge overseeing the actress's case, sources told TMZ, and the judge traveled to the hospital to conduct an emergency hearing. After that meeting, the judge granted the doctors' request.
According to the law, doctors can only get such an order if the patient is "gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder."
Bynes's parents can still pursue temporary conservatorship, which would allow them to control her finances. The hearing is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. PST.

WOW never heard of a judge going to the hospital. Glad to see they are doing what is best for her. Hopefully this is the start of her recovery.

I just hope that she ACCEPTS the help that she is being given. Her attitude as of late makes me think she would be resistant, and not willing to admit that she has a mental illness. Hopefully that is not the case.

I think people with severe mental disorders don't think they are "crazy" (for lack of better term).. They think they are fine and think everyone around them is "crazy". I don't think it's about accepting it. She mentally can't accept it because she is ill, kwim? That's what makes these things hard to treat.
I feel so sorry for her. But thankfully she is getting help and meds.

I feel so sorry for her. But thankfully she is getting help and meds.
And she needs to stay on her meds. The problem with Schizophrenia, or any for that matter is once they're on these drugs which are helping them, they think they are cured and take themselves off of it & relapse.

Exactly , ayne. I agree. It is a lifetime battle from what I read. Just so sad she has to go through it. I wonder how much of it is hereditary and how much is it the life of fame. or a combo.

This is so sad. I remember watching her on that variety show with my stepdaughters. I thought she was such an amazing comedic actress as a little girl and was so excited to see who she would grow up to become. I never expected this. Such talent

Oh my goodness. Poor girl! I really hope she can get help & that once she learns about what she has done in public recently, she will be ok with it & know it was because she was/is sick.

I'd be shocked if this is substance-related. I think it's far more likely that she will be diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Age of onset with this mental illness is often in the mid 20s, which is when Amanda's behavior and cognition seems to have started to change.

This is actually very sad. I sort of thought maybe some of he behavior was part drug use and part she was doing it on purpose for attention or whatever. However to now have a 30 hold initiated on her means there is a lot that is very wrong, she is very sick. I really hope she ets th help she needs now.
