If you had a big Christening party for one DC, did you do the same for the others?

We had a pretty big party for my DS Christening... about 75 people, out at a venue, etc. I'm in the process of planning for my twins' Christening and IDK if I want to do such a huge thing this time. I'm doing it in September and was thinking of just catering something small at our house... immediate family, godparents, some friends.

If you had a big party for one DC, did you do the same for the others? IDK, I feel so guilty about this!

Yes we did the same thing for ds #1 and ds#2. We will do the same thing for ds#3. I think they should all be treated equally.

Nope! DD had a decent sized party - maybe 50-70 ppl?

DS got just immediate family at a restaurant for lunch. I believe it was 9 adults and 5 kids (including our 2).

Ok good to know that I'm not the only one to consider scaling back! I really don't have the time or energy to plan an elaborate party. I'm still going to make it a nice celebration, but I can't deal with sending out invites, etc.

I scaled it back a lot for my second ds. The first was at an AOH hall & while I had the second at a restaurant, I invited at least 20 less people, if not more. It was so much more intimate & I enjoyed the party more the second time around.

Nope. We only did it for our first. The other two had small christenings that were family only and we went out to lunch at a restaurant after.

My twins we did a party at a restaurant. For #3, we had immediate family only and godparents back at the house for hero and cake. I didn't have the energy or money to plan a big party this time around.

For my DD we had her christening at the clubhouse in my Grandma's community, there was about 70-75 people, and we catered it.

For DS, we didn't invite any friends (just close family) and it was about 30-35 people. We had it at the house in our yard and we had wraps and sandwiches and I made some cold salads and apps. Very simple.

I didn't feel guilty, honestly, it was just too much to plan while dealing with the new baby and my DD (almost 5). I actually liked the way it all turned out, it was a nice relaxing day. Much less chaos than the first time around. It was also a lot more affordable too. Chat Icon

For DD#1 we had a larger (~65people) christening at a catering hall. I'm pregnant with DD#2 and I would like to scale back a bit for this one but DH doesn't agree. We will probably end up doing it the same.

Re: If you had a big Christening party for one DC, did you do the same for the others?

I had DD's Christening party at a restaurant and we had about 50 people. It wasn't cheap. If I have another DC, I'm not certain I would go this route again, and if I don't, I will not feel guilty for one second. A four-month-old does not know or care what kind of Christening party they have. I would make sure that each day is filled with just as much love and I'd have the photographs to prove it. But how grand or extensive the venue or menu is really more about the adults than the kids.

Now if you were going to throw one kid a blowout 5th birthday bash and then when the other kid's bday rolls around it's like here's a happy meal, that would be an issue.

We did it for both boys - 150 + people both times.
And their 1st birthdays ........

after that, no more until Communion, and even then I'm cutting that list in 1/2 !!

We had about 70 people at a restaurant for DD"s bday. If I can afford it when and if DC number two comes along I would love to do the same. If for some reason I couldn't have a big party for DC #2 bc of non financial considerations, I would stuill try to put the money I would have spent on the christening aside for DC#2's savings account

Re: If you had a big Christening party for one DC, did you do the same for the others?

We had a medium size christening - 40 ppl at a restaurant for DS. I plan on doing the same thing for DC #2 and any other future DC. The only thing that would stop me is if $$$ was an issue, than I would modify my plans or heavens forbid DH, DS or I were sick in any way.

I think you have do what makes you comfy. I was the second child and I never got treated the same as my older brother. It always bothered me as a kid.

Re: If you had a big Christening party for one DC, did you do the same for the others?

Nope. Emerson had a big christening, about 75 ppl out at a catering hall. Had a DJ and the whole bit.
Peyton had about 40ppl in a private room of a pizzeria lol and it was during a heat wave and the AC couldn't keep up and we were all dying. She didn't know the difference lol
