How do you wash the pieces? I was googling the best way and there were all these rules! Can I run them through the dishwasher? I don't want to do anything that can introduce bacteria to my dd, but this who ff just wash bottles right? Is it a huge difference?

im not sure what is right or wrong...
i just use warm/hot soapy water
i dish wash or sterilize (let sit in a pot of boiled water for 5-10 minutes) the pieces maybe once every 2 weeks if i remember

its key to rinse them after use even if you arent fully washing them - you want to rinse off all breast milk otherwise mold can form

BTDT moms who pump

i used baby wipes or medela wipes after each use because i didn't have easy access to a sink immediately after pumping. at home i would just wash with hot water and soap. i might have run them through the dishwasher if i had one Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms who pump

I store them in the refrigerator between pumps and use them for 2-3 pumps before washing them, this saves A LOT of time and they don't get gross because whatever milk is in there is being refrigerated...

I read that somewhere a couple of years ago and did it with DD with no probs Chat Icon

This. And I wash them with hot soapy water. Never sterilized after the first time.

I rinsed them right away and then left them in a bowl of warm soapy water until I was ready to wash them. I either ran them through the dishwasher or washed by hand and then put them in a rack to fully dry. If I were pumping more than once a day I would have gone with the fridge trick. Once in a while I used the microwave bags to sterilize them.

Re: BTDT moms who pump

When I pumped at work I ran them through HOT water after and dried completely with a paper towel before putting back in my bag. At home, hot soapy water to wash, air dry and "boiled" them every 2 weeks or so.

I soaked/hand washed every single piece every singe time (and I EPed). It was the biggest pain in the ass.... I read that you can refrigerate the pieces if you are pumping a lot and don't want to wash every time.

I did not know the refrigerator trick!

Right now I am nursing, but I want to add in a pump session a day so that I can build a supply for when I go back to work. I was looking online about washing and it scared me! lol

I am going to do the fridge trick and get the wipes for when I have to pump at work, that's a great idea!

Thank you so much for the replies!

I washed with hot water and soap and then once a day I would sterlize them in a medela microwave sterlize bag.

Re: BTDT moms who pump

medela makes microwaveable steam bags. use them about 20 times and then dispose of them. they are quick, easy, and safe (apparently)

Re: BTDT moms who pump

For work I bring 2 sets of pump accessories so I don't have to spend time washing it in the bathroom. I do rinse it out and store it in separate plastic bags. I put them in the dishwasher when I get home.
