Baby nightmares?

Is there a such thing? Dd seems to wake up in the middle of the night and during naps crying but her eyes are closed. Today my mom even picked her up and she still cried with her eyes closed and she got to the point that she was like trying to catch her breath. Any ideas what this is or how to help?? Chat Icon

This has happened a few times with DD too, I assumed she may have a bad dream or sometching scared her

Re: Baby nightmares?

My DS has had them and I've chalked them up to being the occasional night terror. He's completely inconsolable and like you said, he's still asleep while he's having them, even though he is sounding like he's awake. It's awful when it happens.

Maybe talk to your ped if they are happening often enough that they are of a concern? I'm not sure if there could be any other reason other than night terrors for her waking up and crying like that.

Baby nightmares?

It happens to DS too. It's been happening for a little while. Normally I pick him up and talk to him, which seems to calm him down. I feel so bad, but it's all I can do!

Re: Baby nightmares?

Yes DD gets these and she will twitch and huff and try to catch her breath - goes on for 30 min sometimes! She won't respond to me touching her or saying her name - it is a bit freaky. I have heard not to wake them?

I've often wondered the same thing. DD has started crying in her sleep before. I have no idea why.

yes, this happened recently a few times with my DS... at 4am he will start crying and pulling up to get out of his crib... and then he just goes back down and falls asleep again. Very weird.

Re: Baby nightmares?

It happened to my DD twice. She woke up screaming like something scared the crap out of her but when we went in, she wouldn't wake and/or calm down even as we were holding her. So heartbreaking.

Think it's a night terror too.

Re: Baby nightmares?

DD would have night terrors but they have become less frequent these days. They are horrible. She's technically sleeping and inconsolable and almost scared of us while they are happening. I usually turn on a low light as dark and shadows can make it worse and bright light is startling and then just calmly say mommy is here and its okay. I had them when i was little as did my mom. Thankfully she hasn't had one since December but they used to be roughly every other week or so.
