And if so, did you just bite the bullet and pay the full premium? I am due in November ... my FMLA will run out in March. I am taking the rest of the year off so we will need coverage until September when I go back. Through my district it will be almost $1800 a month!
My other options would be childplus for the kids and a hope and prayer that DH and I don't get sick.... I know... not the most responsible choice.
Or...
Since DH is a solo proprietor he would be able to apply for HealthyNY.
Has anyone ever done this? I am not looking to cheat the system in any way.. but if we can get coverage for less than a mortgage, I would like to.

not a teacher but when i was self employed i went through a broker and was able to get health insurance for half of what i was being quoted by companies when i called. The amount i was being quoted at the time was $600 (this was about 5 years ago)
thru the broker since i was considered a business i was able to get i guess buisness rates for myself.
