I heard about this story on GMA this morning. If this is how he acts at a restaurant - can you imagine what their home life is like? The pictures of him grabbing her throat are both sad and enraging, she looks terrified.

I saw this also on the today show. They were saying, why didn't anyone call the police instead of just taking pictures.
And wtf is he doing to her nose in that one shot?
Asshole needs to keep his hands to himself!

This is disgusting. And even more shameful that no one thought to help but to snap off pictures of her and plaster them all online.

Nigella Lawson's husband Charles Saatchi has described the shocking pictures showing him holding his TV cook wife by the throat as a "playful tiff".

Breaking his silence the art collector admits the astonishing pictures published in the Sunday People are "horrific" but says they "give a far more drastic and violent impression of what took place".

He claims the couple were having an "intense debate" and that he "held Nigella’s neck repeatedly while attempting to emphasise my point".

Saatchi, a columnist for the Evening Standard, told the newspaper: "About a week ago, we were sitting outside a restaurant having an intense debate about the children, and I held Nigella’s neck repeatedly while attempting to emphasise my point.

"There was no grip, it was a playful tiff. The pictures are horrific but give a far more drastic and violent impression of what took place. Nigella’s tears were because we both hate arguing, not because she had been hurt.

"We had made up by the time we were home. The paparazzi were congregated outside our house after the story broke yesterday morning, so I told Nigella to take the kids off till the dust settled."

Saatchi was pictured grabbing his wife as they had a meal at Scott’s restaurant in Mayfair, Central London. He had already reduced to tears with a tirade of angry words, witnesses said.

At first, he held Nigella’s neck with one hand, as she appeared to be holding his other hand away from her body and answering back during the exchange.

He then tweaked her nose before grabbing her neck again, this time she looked more frightened. Saatchi then squeezed her neck with his left hand, Nigella closed her eyes and appeared to be in pain.

The fourth time he put both hands around her neck.

She was by now looking “powerless and ­petrified”.

No other customers ­intervened.

Saatchi stormed off to a waiting car before a sobbing Nigella downed a glass of red wine and also fled the restaurant.

An onlooker said it was “utterly shocking” to witness.

A ­spokesperson for Scott’s said: “Staff are aware of ­allegations in the media today but did not see anything untoward. As this is now a police matter we cannot comment further.”

But celebrities and fans lined up to support Nigella.

Radio 2 DJ Jeremy Vine tweeted: “Hope Nigella is OK. This front page stands out.”

Former MP Louise Mensch said: “This is a completely shocking story. If true, the police should be involved. Lots of people are saying, ‘It’s Nigella’s ­business’. I don’t agree. An alleged assault ­photographed in a public place is everyone’s ­business. The police have come under a great deal of criticism for not ­investigating domestic violence and given the photos public ­confidence requires it. If there is some kind of ­explanation we really need to hear why an offence was not committed, in order to have confidence.”

One fan tweeted: “How ­arrogant of Charles Saatchi to abuse his wife in a public place and get away with it. Shame on all the diners near them.”

But the Daily Mirror can reveal that before the photos were made public, the couple returned to the restaurant on Saturday where they had lunch together on an outside tables where their row took place on June 9.

There was no aggressive behaviour and they appeared to enjoy their meal.

Before the story was published, Nigella was tweeting messages and comments about food, unaware her relationship was about to be put into the spotlight.

Last December, there were concerns raised when she and Saatchi had a another bust-up at Scott’s.

He put his hand over her mouth in an apparent bid to shut her up.

The pair are due to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in September.

Nigella has previously admitted that she and Saatchi have fiery rows and has described her husband as “an exploder”.

She said in 2007: “I’ll go quiet when he explodes, and then I am a nest of horrible festeringness.”

I saw this on GMA too. I feel very sorry for her. I can't imagine what goes on behind closed doors.
