explaining death of a pet to toddler?
How do you tell a toddler that your pet has died/very sick?
We just found out that our cat has cancer. He is 15 yrs old so we are not going to do chemo. We have decided that we are going to put him down, i have no clue how to handle this with my DS who is almost 3. I've been reading online and it says to say that our pet died and is not coming back. I just know DS is going to ask what is died. He is super inquisitive and bright and I don't know if I am ready or if he is ready to discuss death with him.
Has anyone dealt with this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am so upset right now.

m not really sure either. I remember reading that you shouldn't mention that your cat is sick because then he might fear that anytime someone is sick they are going to die. I would probably say something along the lines of his body stopped working? So sorry you have to go through this!

Are you religious? I would just say the kitty went to heaven.
